Tips for success
For a thicker, more caramelized glaze, transfer the cooked wings to a baking sheet and broil for 2–3 minutes until the edges char slightly. Watch closely to avoid burning.
If you prefer a saucier result, skip the broiling and simply spoon extra sauce over the wings when serving. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
These wings are incredibly versatile. Serve them as a main dish with rice and steamed vegetables, or as a party appetizer with toothpicks and extra lime wedges. You can also shred the meat and use it in tacos or sliders. The sweet-heat flavor pairs well with a cooling cucumber salad or a simple coleslaw.
Variations
- Spicy Mango Twist: Replace pineapple tidbits with diced fresh mango and add an extra jalapeño. The mango adds a tropical sweetness that pairs beautifully with the honey-soy glaze. For extra heat, stir in 1 teaspoon of sriracha before cooking.
- Garlic-Ginger Version: Add 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger along with the garlic. The ginger adds a warm, aromatic note that complements the soy and honey. You can also sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the finished wings for a nutty finish.
- Orange-Chile Glaze: Swap the lime juice for orange juice and add a pinch of red pepper flakes. The orange brings a bright citrus flavor that pairs well with the jalapeños. Serve with a sprinkle of orange zest for extra freshness.
- Bourbon-Honey Wings: Replace 2 tablespoons of the soy sauce with bourbon and add an extra tablespoon of honey. The bourbon adds a smoky depth that makes these wings feel even more indulgent. Cook as directed, then broil briefly for a caramelized finish.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently before serving.
- Freezer
- Freeze cooked wings in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10–15 minutes, or microwave in 30-second bursts until warmed through.
Leftover wings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The glaze will set as it cools, but it will re-liquefy when reheated.
To reheat, place the wings in a microwave-safe dish and heat in 30-second bursts, or warm them in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water or broth to loosen the sauce.
You can assemble the entire dish the night before: place the chicken, pineapple, jalapeños, and sauce in the slow cooker insert, cover, and refrigerate.
In the morning, simply place the insert in the slow cooker base and start cooking. This is a great time-saver for busy days. If you're short on time, you can also cook the wings on high for 2–3 hours instead of low.
Serving ideas
Serve these wings hot, straight from the slow cooker, with steamed basmati rice and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro or sliced green onions if you like. The rice soaks up the sweet-savory sauce, making every bite satisfying. For a complete meal, add a side of roasted vegetables or a crisp green salad.
As an appetizer, arrange the wings on a platter with toothpicks and extra lime wedges for squeezing. The sticky glaze is a hit at parties—just be sure to have plenty of napkins.
You can also serve them over a bed of lettuce for a lighter presentation. Either way, they're best enjoyed immediately while the glaze is still glossy and warm.
