Tips for success
To achieve the most consistent results, try to keep the layers uniform in thickness. Using a measuring cup to distribute the beef and sauce between each layer of pasta helps ensure that you do not run out of ingredients before reaching the top of the dish.
If the top of the lasagna begins to brown too quickly before the center is heated through, loosely tent the baking dish with aluminum foil for the final ten minutes of baking.
This protects the cheese from burning while allowing the heat to penetrate the deeper layers effectively.
Variations
- Spicy Cheddar Bacon: Stir diced pickled jalapeños into the ground beef layer and substitute sharp cheddar with habanero or pepper jack cheese for a smoky, fiery kick.
- Smoky Barbecue Twist: Swirl two tablespoons of sweet barbecue sauce into each layer of browned beef to accentuate the savory, grilled cheeseburger profile against the creamy béchamel.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze individual baked slices wrapped in foil for up to 2 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
- Reheat
- Reheat covered in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 15-20 minutes, or microwave on medium power until steaming hot.
Allow the lasagna to cool to room temperature for no more than 2 hours before covering it tightly with plastic wrap or transferring it to an airtight container for the refrigerator.
This dish is excellent for make-ahead preparation. You can assemble the entire lasagna up to 24 hours in advance, cover it, and keep it in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake.
If baking directly from the refrigerator, add an extra 10 to 15 minutes to the total baking time to ensure the center is thoroughly heated.
Serving ideas
Serve the lasagna with a side of crisp, fresh greens dressed in a simple vinaigrette to provide a bright, acidic contrast to the richness of the bacon and garlic béchamel.
A side of toasted garlic bread can also be a welcome addition for those who enjoy extra crunch with their meal.
Present the lasagna on a wooden board or a decorative platter to showcase the beautiful layers when sliced.
Using a sharp, wide spatula will help you lift each square cleanly, ensuring that the structure remains intact as it moves from the baking dish to the dinner plate.

Parmesan Garlic Bacon Cheeseburger Lasagna

Ingredients
- 2 lb ground beef
- 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 3 cups garlic béchamel, store-bought or made ahead
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 12 sheets pasta layers, boiled
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- fresh parsley, for serving
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until thoroughly browned and sizzling, breaking it into small crumbles, until the internal temperature reaches at least 160°F (71°C). Drain off any excess grease from the pan. In a separate bowl, warm the garlic béchamel and stir in the grated parmesan cheese until fully incorporated and smooth.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin spoonful of the garlic béchamel across the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Lay down a layer of boiled pasta layers, followed by a generous scoop of browned ground beef, a sprinkle of crispy bacon, a drizzle of the garlic béchamel, and a handful of shredded cheddar cheese. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheddar and bacon across the top.
- Bake uncovered at 375°F (190°C) for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbling throughout. Switch the oven to broil for 1 to 2 minutes to achieve a deeply toasted, bubbling cheddar crust. Remove from the oven carefully. Let the lasagna rest on a flat surface for 10 minutes to set the molten layers, then sprinkle fresh parsley over the top before slicing into tall squares.
