Tips for success
For an even deeper flavor profile, apply a thin layer of the sweet barbecue sauce to the pork ribs before wrapping them in foil to slow-bake.
This allows the sweet and savory notes of the glaze to penetrate deep into the meat as it cooks, resulting in incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned ribs throughout.
When applying the sweet barbecue sauce glaze in the final step, do not hesitate to apply multiple thin layers rather than one thick one.
Brush on a layer of sauce, bake for five minutes, then apply a second layer and bake for another five minutes. This layering technique builds a beautiful, lacquer-like crust that is sticky and deeply caramelized without burning.
Variations
- Spicy Chipotle Glaze: Mix a tablespoon of adobo sauce from canned chipotles into your sweet BBQ sauce for a smoky, spicy kick.
- Maple Bourbon Ribs: Whisk two tablespoons of pure maple syrup and a splash of bourbon into the BBQ sauce before glazing the ribs.
- Herb-Infused Glaze: Add dried thyme and oregano to the BBQ sauce for an earthy, herbaceous undertone.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftover ribs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze cooked ribs wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and foil in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
- Reheat
- Reheat ribs wrapped in foil with a splash of water or broth at 250°F (120°C) until warmed through, about 20 minutes.
Allow any leftover ribs to cool completely at room temperature for no more than two hours before storing. Place the leftover ribs in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil. Keep them stored in the refrigerator for up to three to four days.
You can easily prepare these ribs ahead of time. Bake the ribs in the foil packet until they are tender, then let them cool, wrap them tightly, and store them in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, bring them to room temperature, apply the sweet glaze, and caramelize them in the oven.
Serving ideas
Serve these sticky, caramelized ribs sliced individually or in small slabs of three to four ribs. Arrange them on a large serving platter lined with butcher paper or parchment paper to catch any extra drips of glaze.
Accompany the ribs with extra sweet barbecue sauce on the side for dipping, and provide plenty of napkins for your guests.
These rich and savory ribs pair beautifully with classic barbecue side dishes. Serve them alongside a cool, crisp coleslaw to cut through the richness of the pork, or pair them with warm, buttery cornbread and smoky baked beans.
A side of potato salad or grilled corn on the cob also makes for a perfect, hearty meal.

Oven-Baked BBQ Ribs with a Sticky Sweet Glaze

Ingredients
- 3 lb pork baby back ribs, membrane removed
- 1 cup sweet BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 275°F (135°C). Pat the pork baby back ribs dry with paper towels. Peel away the thin, papery membrane on the back of the ribs if it is still attached, using a butter knife to loosen it and a paper towel to grip and pull it off clean.
- Wrap the prepared ribs tightly in a double layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil, creating a sealed packet to trap the steam and juices. Place the foil packet on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven at 275°F (135°C) for 2.5 to 3 hours, until the meat is very tender.
- Carefully open the foil packet, exposing the ribs. Increase the oven temperature to 450°F (230°C) or turn on the broiler. Brush the sweet BBQ sauce generously over the top of the ribs. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbling, sticky, and slightly charred at the edges. Ensure the meat reaches a safe minimum internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) and let the meat rest at least 3 minutes before slicing.
