Tips for success

To achieve clean, neat slices of lasagna that look as beautiful on the plate as they do in the baking dish, always allow the lasagna to rest for at least fifteen to twenty minutes after removing it from the oven.

Slicing into a hot lasagna immediately will cause the layers to slide apart and the creamy sauce to run. Resting allows the melted cheese and rich sauce to firm up slightly, holding the layers beautifully together.

If the top of the lasagna begins to brown too quickly before the center is fully heated through, tent the baking dish loosely with a sheet of aluminum foil.

This protects the cheese from burning while allowing the heat to continue penetrating the deep layers of pasta, beef, and garlic parmesan sauce for a uniform bake. Remove the foil during the last few minutes of baking to ensure a golden, bubbling top.

Variations

  • Spicy Bacon Cheeseburger: Add chopped jalapeños to the ground beef mixture and a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic parmesan sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Cheddar Blend Lasagna: Substitute half of the mozzarella cheese with sharp cheddar cheese to enhance the classic cheeseburger flavor profile.

Storage and make-ahead

Fridge
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
Freezer
Freeze tightly wrapped slices for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the fridge.
Reheat
Reheat covered with foil in a 350°F (175°C) oven until hot and bubbling.

Store any leftover lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator within two hours of cooking to ensure food safety and freshness. The rich flavors of the bacon, beef, and garlic parmesan sauce will continue to develop and meld together overnight, making the leftovers taste even more spectacular the next day. Be sure to consume the refrigerated leftovers within three to four days.

This lasagna is an excellent make-ahead dish for busy weeknights or entertaining. Assemble the entire lasagna in the baking dish, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and store it in the refrigerator for up to twenty-four hours before baking.

When you are ready to serve, remove the plastic wrap, cover the dish with foil, and bake, adding about ten minutes to the total baking time to account for the cold dish.

Serving ideas

Serve this rich and decadent lasagna alongside a crisp, refreshing green salad dressed with a light, tangy vinaigrette to balance the creamy garlic parmesan sauce.

A side of roasted vegetables, such as asparagus, green beans, or broccoli, also pairs beautifully, providing a colorful and fresh contrast to the hearty main course. The acidity of the salad dressing cuts through the richness of the cheese and sauce perfectly.

For an extra touch of indulgence, pair the lasagna with warm garlic bread or crusty rustic Italian bread to scoop up any remaining creamy sauce on the plate. Present the tall, beautiful slices on warm plates to keep the cheese stretchy and gooey as it is served to guests, ensuring a restaurant-quality dining experience at home. A sprinkle of fresh parsley on top adds a lovely pop of color.

Frequently asked questions

Can this lasagna be frozen before baking?
Yes, assemble the lasagna completely, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil, and freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator before baking.

A tall slice of garlic parmesan bacon cheeseburger lasagna showing layers of beef, pasta, and bubbling cheese.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz bacon, chopped
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups creamy garlic parmesan sauce, store-bought or made ahead
  • 12 lasagna sheets, cooked
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the bacon is crispy and golden brown. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels, leaving a small amount of drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add the ground beef to the same skillet with the remaining bacon drippings. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon, until fully browned and cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Drain any excess grease from the pan.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of the pre-made creamy garlic parmesan sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place three cooked lasagna sheets on top. Layer with a portion of the browned ground beef, shredded mozzarella cheese, and a sprinkle of cooked bacon.
  4. Repeat the layering process, ending with a final layer of lasagna sheets topped with the remaining garlic parmesan sauce, mozzarella cheese, and crispy bacon. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
