Tips for success
To achieve clean, restaurant-style slices of lasagna, patience is key. Letting the baked lasagna rest on the counter for at least fifteen to twenty minutes before cutting allows the melted cheese and cream sauce to firm up slightly.
If you cut into the lasagna immediately after removing it from the oven, the hot fillings will run, and the layers will collapse. Use a very sharp chef's knife or a serrated knife to slice through the pasta sheets cleanly, wiping the blade between cuts.
For an even richer flavor profile, consider infusing the white sauce with a pinch of ground nutmeg or a splash of dry white wine. If using white wine, add it to the skillet after searing the shrimp to deglaze the pan, letting it reduce by half before adding the sauce.
This adds a subtle acidity that cuts through the richness of the cream and cheese, beautifully complementing the sweet flavor of the shrimp and crab meat.
Variations
- Spicy Seafood Lasagna: Add half a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the white sauce and a pinch of cayenne pepper to the shrimp for a subtle, warming heat.
- Spinach and Seafood Lasagna: Layer fresh baby spinach or squeezed dry chopped cooked spinach between the pasta sheets to add color and a mild earthy flavor.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, ensuring it is chilled within 2 hours of baking.
- Freezer
- Freeze the unbaked or baked lasagna tightly wrapped in foil and plastic wrap for up to 2 months. Thaw completely in the fridge before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat individual slices in the oven at 350°F (175°C) covered with foil for 15-20 minutes, or in the microwave on medium power until hot.
Store any leftover seafood lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Because this dish contains delicate seafood and dairy, it is important to refrigerate the leftovers within two hours of cooking. To protect the texture of the cheese crust, you can cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil before placing it in the fridge.
This lasagna can be assembled up to twenty-four hours in advance. Prepare the noodles, sear the shrimp, and layer the lasagna with the white sauce and cheese in your baking dish.
Cover the assembled, unbaked lasagna tightly with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to bake, remove the plastic wrap, cover with foil, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for an extra ten minutes before removing the foil to brown the cheese.
Serving ideas
Serve this decadent seafood lasagna on warm plates to keep the rich cream sauce and cheese melt-in-your-mouth soft. Pair each tall, luxurious slice with a simple, crisp green salad tossed in a light lemon vinaigrette.
The bright acidity of the citrus dressing provides a refreshing contrast to the rich, savory flavors of the pasta, balancing the meal beautifully without competing with the delicate seafood.
Accompany the dish with warm, crusty garlic bread or a freshly baked baguette to soak up any extra white sauce left on the plate. For beverages, a chilled glass of dry white wine such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or a light Chardonnay pairs wonderfully with the sweet shrimp and crab. For a non-alcoholic option, sparkling water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime is incredibly refreshing.

Decadent Seafood Lasagna with Shrimp and Crab

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, and divided
- 3 cups creamy white sauce, store-bought or made ahead
- 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
- 8 oz crab meat, drained
- 3 cups shredded cheese, such as mozzarella, divided
- chopped fresh parsley for serving
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and sear until they are pink, opaque, and cooked through, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Ensure the shrimp reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Remove from heat, set aside a few whole shrimp for garnish, and chop the remaining shrimp into bite-sized pieces.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of the creamy white sauce across the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Lay three cooked lasagna noodles side-by-side. Top with a portion of the chopped shrimp, crab meat, creamy white sauce, and a generous sprinkle of shredded cheese. Repeat these layers with the remaining noodles, seafood, sauce, and cheese.
- For the final top layer, place the last three lasagna noodles, spread the remaining creamy white sauce over them, and cover completely with the remaining shredded cheese. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the cheese is blistered, bubbly, and golden-brown on top.
- Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest on a wire rack for 15 minutes to allow the layers to set. Before slicing, arrange the reserved seared whole shrimp on top and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Cut into tall, decadent slices and serve warm on ceramic plates.
