Tips for success
To achieve perfectly clean, picture-perfect square cuts of lasagna, patience is your best friend. Resisting the temptation to slice into the lasagna immediately after removing it from the oven is key.
Letting the dish rest on a wire rack for fifteen to twenty minutes allows the melted cheese, bechamel, and seafood juices to cool slightly and solidify. This resting period ensures that the layers hold their shape beautifully when cut with a sharp knife, rather than sliding apart into a messy pool on the plate.
If you want to add an extra touch of elegance, reserve a few whole, seasoned shrimp to cook separately in garlic butter and place them on top of the baked lasagna just before serving.
This not only makes for a stunning visual presentation but also lets your guests know exactly what succulent seafood treasures await them inside. A light sprinkle of freshly cracked black pepper or a pinch of seafood seasoning over the top adds a beautiful contrast against the golden, browned cheese.
Variations
- Spicy Seafood Lasagna: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter when sautéing the shrimp and crab for a subtle, warming kick.
- Herb-Infused Lasagna: Stir chopped fresh parsley, dill, or chives into the bechamel sauce to add a bright, fresh herbal note to the rich dish.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze tightly wrapped portions for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat covered with foil in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 20 minutes, or microwave individual slices until hot.
Allow any leftover seafood lasagna to cool completely at room temperature for no more than two hours to ensure food safety. Once cooled, cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil or transfer individual slices to airtight containers.
Store the leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days. Because this dish contains delicate seafood and dairy, it is important to keep it properly chilled and consume it within this timeframe to enjoy the best flavor and quality.
This seafood lasagna is an excellent candidate for making ahead. You can fully assemble the entire lasagna, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and store it in the refrigerator for up to twenty-four hours before baking. When you are ready to serve, remove the plastic wrap, cover the dish with aluminum foil, and bake as directed, adding about ten minutes to the baking time to account for the cold dish. This makes entertaining or holiday meal prep incredibly stress-free.
Serving ideas
Serve this rich and decadent seafood lasagna alongside a crisp, light side dish to balance the creamy flavors. A simple green salad tossed with a bright lemon vinaigrette or a classic Caesar salad works wonderfully.
The acidity of a citrusy dressing cuts through the richness of the bechamel and cheese beautifully. Lightly steamed vegetables, such as asparagus spears or roasted green beans, also make excellent accompaniments that add color and a fresh, crunchy texture to the plate.
To complete the dining experience, pair the lasagna with warm, crusty garlic bread or a fresh baguette. The bread is perfect for scooping up any delicious, creamy sauce left on the plate. For beverage pairings, a chilled glass of dry white wine, such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or a light Chardonnay, complements the sweet seafood and rich cream sauce beautifully, enhancing the overall dining experience for you and your guests.

Creamy Garlic Butter Seafood Lasagna with Shrimp and Crab

Ingredients
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
- 8 oz lump crab meat
- 1 tsp seafood seasoning
- 9 lasagna sheets, cooked
- 3 cups bechamel sauce, store-bought or made ahead
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for one minute until fragrant. Toss in the raw shrimp, lump crab meat, and seafood seasoning. Cook for three to four minutes, stirring gently, until the shrimp just begins to turn pink and the seafood is fully coated in garlic butter. Remove from heat immediately.
- Spread a thin layer of velvety bechamel sauce over the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Lay three cooked pasta sheets over the sauce to cover the bottom of the dish completely.
- Distribute half of the sautéed garlic-butter shrimp and crab evenly over the pasta sheets. Pour one cup of bechamel sauce over the seafood, then sprinkle with one-third of the shredded cheese. Repeat the layers, starting with pasta sheets, then the remaining seafood, bechamel, and another third of the cheese.
- Top with the final three pasta sheets, the remaining bechamel sauce, and the rest of the shredded cheese. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for twenty-five to thirty minutes. The lasagna is ready when the cheese is bubbling and golden, and the seafood reaches a safe internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Let the lasagna rest for fifteen minutes before slicing.
