Tips for success
For the most flavorful butter, use a high-quality unsalted butter and season it with chili powder, lime zest, and a pinch of salt. If you like extra heat, add a minced fresh chili or a dash of hot sauce to the melted butter. You can also add a teaspoon of Cajun seasoning to the butter for a deeper, spicier flavor.
To ensure even cooking, cut the potatoes into uniform sizes and arrange the seafood in a single layer. If your slow cooker is smaller, reduce the recipe by half and adjust the cooking time accordingly. The key is to resist the urge to stir; gentle layering keeps the seafood intact and the vegetables evenly coated.
Variations
- Spicy Cajun: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of Cajun seasoning to the melted butter before pouring it over the seafood. This adds a smoky, spicy depth that pairs beautifully with the chili and lime.
- Garlic Herb: Replace the cilantro with fresh parsley and add 2 minced garlic cloves to the melted butter. This creates a savory, aromatic version that is just as delicious.
- Citrus Burst: Add the zest of one lime and one orange to the butter, and serve with extra lime wedges. The bright citrus notes brighten the dish and complement the sweetness of the seafood and corn.
- Smoky Chipotle: Stir 1 to 2 teaspoons of chipotle powder or adobo sauce into the melted butter. The smoky heat adds a robust flavor that pairs well with the lobster and shrimp.

For best results, reheat gently in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring occasionally, until warmed through. The potatoes may soften further, but the flavors will still be delicious.
You can prepare the ingredients up to a day ahead: split the lobster tails, peel the shrimp, cut the corn, and scrub the potatoes. Store them separately in the refrigerator.
Melt the chili-lime butter and keep it in a jar. When ready to cook, layer everything in the slow cooker and proceed. This makes the recipe even more convenient for busy evenings.
Serving ideas
Serve this seafood boil over steamed white jasmine rice to soak up the buttery glaze. The rice provides a neutral base that lets the chili-lime butter and seafood shine.
Add lemon wedges on the side for a bright, citrusy squeeze just before eating. A crisp green salad or crusty bread would also be excellent for mopping up the extra glaze.
For a more casual presentation, you can serve the boil directly from the slow cooker, letting guests help themselves. Provide small bowls for the shells and plenty of napkins.
This dish is perfect for a family dinner or a casual gathering with friends. The colorful array of lobster, shrimp, corn, and potatoes makes a stunning centerpiece.

Chili Lime Butter Cajun Boil Lobster Tails

Ingredients
- 4 split cold-water lobster tails
- 1 lb raw jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 ears sweet yellow corn, halved
- 1 lb baby red bliss potatoes
- 1/2 cup chili-lime butter, melted
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Place the split lobster tails and raw jumbo shrimp in the bottom of a 7-quart slow cooker. Arrange the halved sweet corn ears and baby red potatoes around the seafood, tucking them into any gaps so everything sits in a single layer as much as possible.
- Drizzle the melted chili-lime butter evenly over the seafood and vegetables. Sprinkle the chopped fresh cilantro over the top, covering the lobster tails and shrimp lightly.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the lobster tails are opaque and the shrimp are pink and firm. The potatoes should be fork-tender and the corn should be heated through and slightly infused with the butter glaze.
- Test the thickest part of a lobster tail and the largest shrimp with an instant-read thermometer. They should register at least 145°F (63°C). The lobster meat should be opaque and slightly firm, and the shrimp should curl into a loose C shape.
- Using a slotted serving spoon, lift the lobster tails, shrimp, corn, and potatoes from the butter glaze and arrange them over steamed white jasmine rice on a serving platter. Spoon a little extra glaze over the top and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
