Tips for success
For the best cheese pull, use a combination of mozzarella and a little provolone or fontina, which melt beautifully. If you want a crispier top, switch the oven to broil for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning.
To make slicing easier, use a serrated knife and saw gently through the crust. Serve the stuffed bread immediately while the cheese is still stretchy, as it will firm up as it cools.
If you have leftover filling, it is delicious served over pasta or rice. You can also prepare the chicken Alfredo mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
When ready to serve, reheat the filling and stuff the bread just before baking. For a vegetarian version, replace the chicken with sautéed mushrooms or roasted vegetables. The recipe is adaptable, so feel free to customize it with your favorite add-ins.
Variations
- Spicy Buffalo Chicken: Toss the cooked chicken in buffalo sauce before adding to the Alfredo. Drizzle with ranch or blue cheese dressing and top with extra mozzarella for a spicy twist.
- Mushroom and Spinach: Sauté sliced mushrooms and spinach in the skillet before making the sauce. Add them to the filling for an earthy, vegetarian version that still feels indulgent.
- Bacon and Cheddar: Stir cooked, crumbled bacon into the chicken Alfredo and swap the mozzarella for sharp cheddar. The smoky flavor pairs perfectly with the creamy sauce.
- Jalapeño Popper: Add diced pickled jalapeños and a few tablespoons of cream cheese to the filling. Top with pepper jack cheese for a spicy, creamy kick.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftover stuffed bread in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze unbaked stuffed bread for up to 2 months; bake from frozen, adding 10-15 minutes.
- Reheat
- Reheat slices in a 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes to restore crispness.
Leftover stuffed garlic bread can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place slices on a baking sheet and warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is melted again. Microwave reheating is quicker but may make the bread soggy. The bread is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers are still delicious.
You can prepare the chicken Alfredo filling up to 2 days in advance. Cook the chicken and make the sauce, then let it cool completely and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, stuff the bread and bake as directed.
The bread itself should be hollowed out just before filling to prevent it from becoming stale. You can also assemble the entire stuffed loaf and refrigerate it for up to 4 hours before baking, but you may need to add a few minutes to the baking time.
Serving ideas
Serve the stuffed garlic bread as a main dish with a simple green salad or roasted vegetables on the side. It is also great for sharing as an appetizer or party food. Cut the loaf into thick diagonal slices and arrange on a platter. The cheese pull will impress your guests. For a complete meal, pair it with a bowl of tomato soup or a light pasta dish.
This stuffed bread is best served warm, straight from the oven. The contrast of the crisp crust, creamy filling, and gooey cheese is at its peak right after baking.
If you have leftovers, reheat them in the oven to restore some of the crispness. You can also serve it with marinara sauce for dipping, or a sprinkle of fresh herbs like parsley or basil. Enjoy it as a hearty snack or a satisfying dinner.

Cheesy Chicken Alfredo Stuffed Garlic Bread

Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tbsp butter, divided
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 loaf garlic herb French loaf
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken cubes in a single layer. Sprinkle with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown on all sides and cooked through. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and continue stirring until the sauce thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Stir to coat every piece of chicken with the creamy sauce. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes so the flavors meld together. Remove from heat.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the garlic herb French loaf on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, cut a deep V-shaped trench along the top of the loaf, removing the soft bread from the center to create a hollow channel. Reserve the removed bread for another use or discard. Leave about 1/2 inch of bread on the sides and bottom to hold the filling.
- Spoon the chicken Alfredo mixture into the hollowed loaf, spreading it evenly. Top with the shredded mozzarella cheese, covering the filling completely. Press the cheese gently so it adheres.
- Place the stuffed loaf on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is golden brown. The internal temperature of the filling should be at least 165°F (74°C) if checked.
- Remove the stuffed bread from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes on the baking sheet. This allows the filling to set slightly and makes slicing easier. Using a serrated knife, cut the loaf into thick diagonal slices. Serve warm, with the cheese pull stretching as you separate the slices.
