This crown-shaped pizza ring is a showstopper on any table. A ring of golden, sesame-speckled dough cradles a herbed tomato sauce, spicy sucuk, and a blanket of bubbling mozzarella.
Pull apart slice after slice, each one loaded with savory, slightly spicy goodness. It’s a fun twist on pizza night that’s easy to assemble and even easier to devour.
This Turkish crown pizza ring takes the familiar flavors of pizza and shapes them into a festive, pull-apart centerpiece. The dough is rolled into a wide ring, topped with a simple oregano-spiked tomato sauce, spicy sucuk slices, and plenty of mozzarella.
After a quick bake, the crust puffs into a golden crown, and the cheese turns irresistibly stretchy. Serve it as a main dish or a party appetizer — either way, it disappears fast.
Ingredients
- 1 lb store-bought pizza dough, at room temperature
Sauce
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Filling
- 6 oz sucuk (Turkish spicy sausage), thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Topping
- 1 egg yolk, beaten
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Why this recipe works
The ring shape isn’t just for looks. It creates an even surface for toppings and ensures every bite includes a bit of crisp crust, tangy sauce, and melted cheese. The exposed dough edges bake into a golden, slightly chewy rim that’s perfect for dipping. The center hole also helps the pizza cook evenly, so the middle doesn’t stay doughy.
Sucuk, a Turkish dry-cured sausage, brings a deep, spicy, and slightly garlicky flavor that pairs beautifully with the bright tomato sauce and creamy mozzarella.
Because sucuk is already cured and sliced thin, it crisps up nicely in the oven without needing pre-cooking. The sesame seed–studded crust adds a nutty crunch that ties everything together.
Notes and substitutions
Store-bought pizza dough works wonderfully here; look for a fresh or refrigerated dough that’s easy to stretch. If using frozen dough, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before rolling. The dough should be about 1 pound, enough to roll into a 14-inch circle. If you prefer, use homemade pizza dough.
Sucuk is available at Middle Eastern or Turkish markets, but if you can’t find it, a spicy Italian sausage or even pepperoni works as a substitute. For a milder version, use a sweet Italian sausage.
The tomato sauce should be thick; if it’s watery, cook it down for a few minutes before spreading. Shred your own mozzarella for the best melt and flavor.
