Tips for success
For an exceptionally glossy and thick glaze, consider reducing the leftover braising liquid from the slow cooker. After removing the ribs, strain the liquid into a small saucepan and simmer it over medium heat until it reduces by half.
Whisk in a tablespoon of fresh honey to boost the sweetness, then brush this concentrated reduction over the ribs during the final minutes of broiling to create an incredibly rich, sticky coating.
If you prefer a touch of heat to balance the sweet honey and savory garlic, customize the glaze with a pinch of red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
Adding these spicy elements to the sauce before slow cooking allows the heat to mellow and penetrate the meat, resulting in a complex sweet-spicy flavor profile that beautifully complements the rich, fatty nature of the beef ribs.
Variations
- Spicy Honey Garlic BBQ Ribs: Add one teaspoon of cayenne pepper or sriracha to the sauce mixture before cooking to introduce a pleasant, sweet-spicy kick.
- Smoked Paprika Infused Ribs: Whisk one tablespoon of smoked paprika into the BBQ sauce to add a deep, wood-fired smoky flavor without using an actual smoker.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store cooled ribs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days, keeping them in the sauce to retain moisture.
- Freezer
- Freeze the cooked ribs in a heavy-duty freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw completely in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat covered in a 300°F (150°C) oven with a splash of beef broth or extra sauce for 15 minutes, then broil briefly to crisp the glaze.
Allow the cooked ribs to cool to room temperature for no more than two hours before storing them. Place the ribs and any remaining honey garlic BBQ sauce in an airtight container. Store the container in the refrigerator for up to three to four days. Keeping the ribs submerged in the leftover sauce helps maintain their moisture and prevents the meat from drying out during storage.
These ribs can easily be prepared a day in advance. Slow cook the ribs according to the recipe instructions, then let them cool and store them in the refrigerator overnight.
The next day, the fat will have solidified on the surface of the sauce, making it easy to remove. Gently reheat the ribs in the oven at 300°F (150°C) until warmed through, then apply the final glaze and broil as directed.
Serving ideas
Serve these sticky ribs alongside classic barbecue sides that help cut through the rich, sweet glaze. A crisp, tangy coleslaw made with a vinegar-based dressing provides a refreshing contrast to the tender beef.
Creamy potato salad, buttery corn on the cob, or warm, freshly baked cornbread are also excellent accompaniments that round out the meal beautifully and soak up any extra honey garlic sauce.
For an elegant presentation, slice the warm ribs between the bones and stack them high on a large serving platter. Drizzle any remaining warm glaze over the top and serve with plenty of extra napkins. A side of pickled red onions or jalapeños can be offered as a bright, acidic garnish to balance the deep caramelization of the sticky honey garlic BBQ sauce.

Sticky Honey Garlic BBQ Beef Ribs

Ingredients
- 4 lb bone-in beef ribs
- 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce
- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Pat the bone-in beef ribs dry with paper towels. Sear the ribs in the hot skillet for 2 to 3 minutes per side until a deep brown crust develops on all sides. Transfer the seared ribs immediately to the slow cooker insert.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, honey, and minced garlic until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. Pour three-quarters of this honey garlic BBQ sauce mixture directly over the seared beef ribs in the slow cooker, turning the ribs to coat them evenly.
- Cover the slow cooker with the lid. Cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours, or on high heat for 3 to 4 hours, until the meat is extremely tender and begins to pull away from the bones. Ensure the beef registers an internal temperature of at least 145°F (63°C) on a meat thermometer, and let the ribs rest for at least 3 minutes before serving.
- Carefully remove the tender ribs from the slow cooker and place them on a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush the reserved honey garlic BBQ sauce generously over the top of the ribs. Place under the oven broiler for 3 to 5 minutes until the glaze is bubbling, sticky, and slightly charred.
