Tips for success
For a more intense flavor, you can briefly sear the sausages in a pan before adding them to the slow cooker, though it is not strictly necessary for this method.
If you choose to do this, ensure the pan is hot and the sausages have developed a golden-brown crust for added depth.
If you find the sauce is too thick after the cooking time, a small splash of hot water or extra broth can be stirred in just before serving to adjust the consistency. This helps to loosen the pasta and makes the final dish easier to plate and enjoy.
Variations
- Vegetable Addition: Add chopped onions or bell peppers during the layering phase to introduce extra texture and sweetness to the dish.
- Spicy Version: Incorporate a pinch of red pepper flakes or a small amount of hot sauce into the broth for a subtle, warming heat.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
- Freezer
- Freeze for up to 1 month in a sealed, freezer-safe container; thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
- Reheat
- Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat, adding a splash of broth or water to loosen the sauce until heated through.
Transfer any leftovers to an airtight container. To ensure food safety, do not leave the cooked dish at room temperature for more than 2 hours; refrigerate promptly to maintain quality and prevent bacterial growth.
The pasta will continue to absorb liquid as it sits, so you may need to add a splash of water when reheating.
This dish is excellent for preparation in advance.
You can prepare the ingredients and keep them in the refrigerator, but it is best to add the liquid and begin the cooking process just before you intend to serve it to maintain the best pasta texture.
Serving ideas
Serve this dish in wide, shallow bowls to showcase the glossy sauce and the vibrant contrast between the sausage and the pasta. A simple side of crusty bread is perfect for mopping up any remaining broth left at the bottom of the bowl after the meal.
For a fresh finish, consider adding a sprinkle of fresh herbs like parsley or chives, although the dish is complete and flavorful on its own.
Ensure each serving includes a generous portion of both the sausages and the pasta to provide a balanced and satisfying dining experience.

Ingredients
- 1 lb diot sausages, sliced
- 1 lb dry macaroni pasta
- 1 bouillon cube, crumbled
- 2 cups white wine broth
Instructions
- Place the sliced sausages at the bottom of the slow cooker. Scatter the dry macaroni pasta evenly over the sausages, then sprinkle the crumbled bouillon cube over the top of the pasta to ensure even distribution during the cooking process.
- Pour the white wine broth over the ingredients in the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and set the slow cooker to low heat. Cook for 3 hours until the pasta is tender and the sausages reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Check that the pasta has absorbed most of the liquid and the sausage is fully cooked. Allow the dish to rest for 5 minutes before serving to let the sauce thicken slightly and the flavors meld together perfectly.
