Tips for success
To achieve the best flavor, allow the shredded meat to sit in the sauce for an additional 10 minutes after shredding. This allows the beef to absorb the caramelized juices, ensuring every bite is packed with the maple-chipotle profile.
If the sauce seems too thin, you can remove the meat and simmer the sauce on high in the slow cooker for 15 minutes to reduce it further.
For a textural contrast, serve the shredded brisket on thick, butter-toasted Texas toast. The crunch of the toasted bread perfectly complements the tenderness of the slow-cooked beef. You may also serve the brisket alongside a fresh, crisp slaw to provide a bright, acidic contrast to the rich, sweet, and smoky flavors of the maple chipotle glaze.
Variations
- Spicy Maple Brisket: For an extra kick of heat, add an additional tablespoon of pureed chipotle peppers in adobo or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the glaze before cooking.
- Maple Bourbon Brisket: Replace a portion of the maple syrup with a splash of quality bourbon to introduce a deeper, oaky flavor profile that complements the smoky chipotle perfectly.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Cool leftovers to room temperature within 2 hours, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- Store in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a saucepan over medium-low heat with a splash of water or broth until hot throughout.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container to maintain moisture. The beef can be kept in the refrigerator for up to three days. When storing, try to keep the meat submerged in as much of the leftover sauce as possible to prevent it from drying out during storage and subsequent reheating.
This dish is an excellent candidate for making ahead, as the flavors often deepen after sitting in the refrigerator overnight. You can prepare the brisket fully, shred it, and store it in the sauce.
When ready to serve, simply reheat the desired portion in a saucepan over medium heat or in the microwave, adding a splash of water if the sauce has become too thick.
Serving ideas
This maple chipotle brisket is incredibly versatile. Beyond Texas toast, it makes an excellent filling for hearty sandwiches, sliders, or even as a topping for baked potatoes.
The combination of the sweet glaze and the smoky heat pairs beautifully with simple sides like roasted corn or a light green salad, allowing the brisket to remain the star of the plate.
When serving, consider providing extra sauce on the side for guests to drizzle over their portion. The concentrated glaze is flavorful enough that a little goes a long way.
If you are serving a large crowd, the brisket can be kept warm in the slow cooker on the 'keep warm' setting for a short period before serving, ensuring everyone gets a hot, delicious meal.
