Tips for success
For the best flavor, use a high-quality BBQ sauce that you love — the sauce is a major component, so its taste will come through clearly.
If you want a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper along with the BBQ sauce. You can also add a sliced onion to the bottom of the slow cooker for extra depth.
If you prefer a thicker, more caramelized glaze, after the ribs are cooked, transfer them to a baking sheet, brush with some of the reduced sauce, and broil for 2-3 minutes until the edges are charred and sticky.
This step is optional but adds a nice texture. Just watch carefully so the sauce doesn't burn.
Variations
- Spicy Peach Ribs: Add 1-2 chopped chipotle peppers in adobo sauce along with the BBQ sauce for a smoky heat. The sweetness of the peaches balances the spice, creating a bold, addictive glaze.
- Honey-Mustard Peach Ribs: Replace half of the BBQ sauce with honey mustard. The tangy mustard and sweet honey complement the peaches and bourbon, giving the ribs a different but equally delicious flavor profile.
- Peach-Chipotle Glaze: After cooking, remove the ribs and puree the remaining sauce with a can of chipotle peppers. Brush the glaze on the ribs and broil for a few minutes for a caramelized, spicy-sweet finish.
- Bourbon-Apple Ribs: Substitute sliced apples for the peaches and add an extra tablespoon of bourbon. The apples break down into a chunky sauce that pairs beautifully with pork.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftover ribs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freezer
- To freeze, wrap the cooled ribs tightly in foil or place in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 3 months.
- Reheat
- Reheat gently in a saucepan over low heat, or in the microwave in 30-second bursts, adding a little water or BBQ sauce to restore the saucy texture.
Leftover ribs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The sauce will thicken as it cools, and the flavors will continue to meld. Reheat gently in the microwave or in a saucepan with a splash of water or additional BBQ sauce to loosen the sauce.
You can assemble the ribs in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate. In the morning, place the insert in the slow cooker and cook on low as directed.
If you do this, you may need to add 30 minutes to the cooking time because the ingredients start cold. Alternatively, cook the ribs fully, then cool and refrigerate for up to 2 days before reheating.
Serving ideas
Serve the ribs with extra sauce spooned over the top, and let the peaches share the plate — they're a delicious, sweet accompaniment.
For a complete meal, pair with coleslaw, cornbread, or a simple green salad. The sweet and smoky flavors also go well with mashed potatoes or grits.
If you're serving a crowd, keep the ribs warm in the slow cooker on the 'warm' setting. The sauce may thicken further, so you can stir in a splash of water or apple juice to loosen it. These ribs are messy in the best way, so have plenty of napkins on hand.

Slow-Cooker Georgia Peach BBQ Spare Ribs

Ingredients
- 3 lb St. Louis style pork spare ribs
- 3 cups sliced ripe peaches
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 1 1/2 cups thick Kansas City BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Place the racks of St. Louis style spare ribs in the slow cooker insert, arranging them so they fit snugly. If needed, cut the racks in half to fit in a single layer, but do not stack them.
- Scatter the sliced peaches evenly over the ribs. Pour the bourbon over the peaches and ribs, letting it run down between the racks.
- Pour the thick BBQ sauce over the ribs and peaches, using a spatula to spread it evenly. Make sure every surface is coated, including the sides of the racks.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender and pulls away from the bone easily. Do not open the lid during cooking. Let it rest for 3 minutes before slicing.
- Turn off the slow cooker and let the ribs rest in the sauce for 10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and makes the meat easier to handle.
- Using a fork, carefully lift the ribs out of the slow cooker and transfer them to a serving platter or individual plates. Spoon some of the peaches and sauce over the top.
