Tips for success
For the best flavor, use a high-quality ranch seasoning mix or make your own with dried dill, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of black pepper. This allows you to adjust the saltiness to your taste.
If you want extra tang, add a splash of pickle juice to the dip before cooking. The acidity brightens the flavors and cuts through the richness of the cheese and cream cheese.
To keep the panko topping crispy, add it just before serving. If the dip sits in the slow cooker for a long time, the crumbs will soften.
You can also serve the panko on the side and let guests sprinkle it over their own portions. For a more indulgent version, mix some extra shredded cheddar into the panko before toasting for a cheesy crunch.
Variations
- Spicy Jalapeño: Add 2 tablespoons of finely chopped pickled jalapeños and a dash of hot sauce to the dip mixture before cooking. Top with extra jalapeño slices for a kick.
- Smoky Gouda: Replace half of the white cheddar with smoked gouda for a deeper, smoky flavor that pairs beautifully with the bacon and pickles.
- Herb Garden: Stir in 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh chives and 1 teaspoon of dried dill along with the ranch seasoning. Garnish with more fresh herbs before serving.
- Buffalo Chicken: Add 1 cup of shredded cooked chicken and 1/4 cup of buffalo sauce to the dip mixture. Omit the bacon for a lighter version.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. The panko will soften, so refresh the topping when reheating.
- Freezer
- The dip can be frozen for up to 2 months without the panko topping. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat gently.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a saucepan over low heat, stirring often, or in the microwave in 30-second bursts. Add a splash of milk if needed to restore creaminess.
Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The panko topping will lose its crunch, so it is best to add fresh panko when reheating. The dip can be reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally, until hot and bubbly.
The dip can be assembled in the slow cooker insert up to 24 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate, then cook on low for 90 minutes when ready to serve. You can also cook the dip fully, let it cool, and refrigerate it. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the slow cooker, and add fresh panko topping just before serving.
Serving ideas
Serve this dip straight from the slow cooker set to warm, so it stays hot and creamy throughout your gathering. Wavy potato chips are the classic companion, but crinkle-cut pickles, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks also work well.
The dip is thick enough to hold up to sturdy dippers, and the crunchy panko topping adds a delightful texture contrast.
For a fun presentation, place the slow cooker on a serving board surrounded by an assortment of chips and crudités. You can also garnish with extra crumbled bacon and a sprinkle of dill.
This dip is best enjoyed warm, so keep it on the warm setting and stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming on top. It is sure to be a hit at any party.

Crockpot Fried Pickle Ranch Dip with Bacon and Cheddar

Ingredients
- 2 cups finely diced kosher dill pickles
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 1/2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
- 1 cup crispy cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 tbsp fresh chopped dill
Instructions
- In the insert of a slow cooker, combine the finely diced dill pickles, softened cream cheese, shredded white cheddar, sour cream, ranch seasoning mix, and crumbled bacon. Stir until the mixture is well combined and evenly distributed.
- Spoon the combined mixture into the ceramic insert of the slow cooker. Spread it into an even layer so it melts and bubbles uniformly.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 90 minutes, until the dip is bubbling around the edges and the cheese is fully melted. Stir once halfway through if possible.
- While the dip cooks, melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the panko breadcrumbs and stir constantly for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden and fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
- After 90 minutes, check that the dip is hot and bubbling. Stir gently to ensure the cheese is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Sprinkle the toasted panko breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the hot dip. Then scatter the fresh chopped dill over the panko.
- Serve the dip straight from the slow cooker on the warm or low setting, with wavy potato chips or crinkle-cut pickles for dipping.
