Tips for success
For the best flavor, use a BBQ sauce with a good balance of sweet and smoky — hickory is ideal.
If you prefer a bit of heat, add a pinch of cayenne or a dash of hot sauce to the slow cooker before cooking. You can also stir in a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar at the end to brighten the flavors.
If you want a thicker sauce, remove the chicken and peaches after cooking, then simmer the sauce on the stovetop for 10–15 minutes until reduced.
Or, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with two tablespoons of water and stir into the hot liquid, cooking for a few minutes until thickened.
Variations
- Spicy Peach BBQ: Add 1–2 minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and a dash of hot sauce to the slow cooker along with the BBQ sauce. The heat balances the sweetness of the peaches beautifully.
- Pineapple BBQ Chicken: Replace the peaches with an equal amount of pineapple chunks (fresh or canned in juice). The pineapple adds a tropical tang that pairs well with hickory BBQ.
- Peach BBQ Pork: Use boneless pork shoulder or country-style ribs instead of chicken. Increase the cook time to 6–7 hours on LOW, and shred the pork before serving.
- Smoky Peach Glaze for Grilling: Use this recipe as a glaze for grilled chicken or pork. Simmer the sauce on the stovetop until thickened, then brush it onto the meat during the last few minutes of grilling.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently, adding a splash of water if the sauce has thickened too much.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The flavors will continue to develop as it sits.
Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop, adding a splash of water or extra BBQ sauce if needed to loosen the sauce.
This recipe is perfect for meal prep. Assemble the ingredients in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate.
In the morning, place the insert in the slow cooker and cook as directed. You can also freeze the cooked, shredded chicken in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months.
Serving ideas
Serve the chicken over steamed jasmine rice to soak up the sweet-and-smoky sauce. A side of roasted green beans or a crisp green salad balances the richness. For a low-carb option, serve over cauliflower rice or alongside sautéed spinach.
Garnish with sliced green onions or fresh basil for a pop of color and freshness, if desired. The dish also works well in sandwiches or tacos — pile the chicken onto buns or tortillas and top with coleslaw for a quick, flavorful meal.

Peach Hickory BBQ Chicken Thighs: 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Dinner

Ingredients
- 6 boneless skinless chicken thighs
- 4 cups sliced freestone peaches (fresh or frozen, thawed)
- 1 1/2 cups hickory brown-sugar BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Place the chicken thighs in an even layer in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Scatter the sliced peaches over the chicken. Pour the hickory BBQ sauce over everything, making sure the chicken and peaches are mostly coated.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork. The sauce should be bubbling gently around the edges.
- Using two forks, shred the chicken thighs directly in the slow cooker, mixing them with the softened peaches and sauce. Stir well to coat everything in the glaze. Serve hot over steamed jasmine rice, spooning extra sauce over the top.
