Tips for success
For the crispiest salmon, make sure the cubes are dry before they hit the pan. Use a large skillet so the pieces have room to brown without steaming.
If you’re cooking in batches, keep the first batch warm in a low oven while you finish the rest.
The glaze will thicken as it cools, so serve the bowls right away. If you have extra glaze, you can drizzle it over the rice or vegetables. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze—though the video shows a mild version.
Variations
- Spicy Honey Garlic: Add 1 teaspoon of sriracha or red pepper flakes to the glaze for a spicy kick. The heat balances the sweetness of the honey and pairs well with the creamy avocado.
- Sesame Salmon Bowl: After glazing, sprinkle the salmon with toasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of sesame oil. Add a handful of edamame for extra color and texture.
- Lime Cilantro Rice: Stir the juice of one lime and a handful of chopped cilantro into the warm rice before assembling the bowls. This adds a fresh, zesty note that complements the salmon.
- Crispy Tofu Version: Replace the salmon with extra-firm tofu, cubed and pan-seared until golden. Use the same honey garlic glaze and follow the same assembly steps for a vegetarian option.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep avocado separate if possible. Reheat gently before serving.
- Freezer
- Freezing is not recommended as the salmon and avocado will become mushy. Best enjoyed fresh.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a skillet over medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes, or microwave in 30-second bursts until warmed through.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The salmon will lose some crispness, but the flavors will still be delicious.
Keep the avocado separate if possible to prevent browning. Reheat gently in the microwave or in a skillet over low heat.
You can prepare the rice, grate the carrot, and mix the glaze up to a day ahead. Slice the avocado and mango just before serving to keep them fresh.
The salmon is best cooked fresh, but you can cut it into cubes and refrigerate for a few hours before cooking.
Serving ideas
Serve the bowls immediately after assembling, while the salmon is still warm and crisp. The contrast of warm salmon, cool avocado, and juicy mango is best enjoyed right away.
If you like, you can add a sprinkle of sesame seeds or sliced green onions for extra color and flavor, though the video keeps it simple.
This bowl is a complete meal on its own, but you could offer extra lime wedges on the side for a bright squeeze. For a heartier meal, serve with a side of steamed edamame or a simple green salad. The recipe is easily doubled for a crowd.

Honey Garlic Crispy Salmon Avocado Mango Rice Bowl

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb raw salmon fillet
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger root, grated
- 1 cup shredded carrot (from about 1 large carrot)
- 2 tbsp neutral oil (such as canola or grapeseed)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 4 cups cooked white rice
- 1 ripe avocado, sliced
- 1 cup mango chunks (from 1 ripe mango)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
Instructions
- Slice the salmon fillet lengthwise into strips, then cut the strips into bite-size cubes. Grate the ginger and the carrot on a box grater; keep the shredded carrot in a small bowl. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, and soy sauce to make the glaze.
- Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the neutral oil. Swirl the pan to coat the bottom evenly. The oil should shimmer but not smoke.
- Carefully add the salmon cubes to the hot pan in a single layer. Let them sizzle without moving for 2–3 minutes until the bottoms are golden and crisp. Then turn the cubes and cook for another 2–3 minutes, until the salmon is cooked through and reaches 145°F (63°C) in the thickest part.
- Pour the honey garlic glaze over the crispy salmon cubes. Stir gently to coat each piece. Let the glaze bubble and caramelize for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the salmon is glossy and the glaze clings to the bites.
- Divide the cooked rice among four bowls. Spoon the honey garlic salmon bites into the center of each bowl. Arrange the avocado slices and mango chunks on top, and sprinkle with the shredded carrot. Drizzle with mayonnaise just before serving.
