Tips for success
For the most tender lobster, avoid boiling or high-heat cooking. The slow cooker's low setting is ideal because it gently poaches the meat in the butter and wine.
If your slow cooker runs hot, check the seafood at 1 1/2 hours. Also, consider cutting the lobster tails in half lengthwise so the meat is exposed to the sauce and cooks more evenly.
To make the chili-lime butter, whisk the melted butter with the seasoning until fully combined. If using homemade seasoning, toast the chili powder in a dry pan for 30 seconds to intensify its flavor.
Fresh cilantro adds a bright finish; add it both in the pot and as a garnish. For an extra layer of flavor, use a good-quality white wine that you would drink, like a Sauvignon Blanc.
Variations
- Spicy Garlic Twist: Add 4 minced garlic cloves and 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes to the butter mixture. Reduce the chili-lime seasoning to 1 teaspoon and add 1 tablespoon chopped parsley instead of cilantro for a different herb note.
- Butter-Free Version: Replace the butter with 1/2 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup chicken broth. The sauce will be lighter but still flavorful. Use a dairy-free chili-lime seasoning and skip the butter entirely for a dairy-free meal.
- Add Crab Legs: Include 1 pound of king crab legs, cut into sections, along with the lobster and shrimp. Cook for an additional 30 minutes. The crab adds extra sweetness and makes the dish even more indulgent.
- Citrus Herb Variation: Swap the chili-lime seasoning for 1 tablespoon of dried oregano and 1 teaspoon of lemon zest. Add 2 sprigs of fresh thyme to the pot. This gives a more Mediterranean flavor profile.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Keep seafood and rice separate.
- Freezer
- Freeze cooked seafood in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat gently.
- Reheat
- Reheat seafood and sauce in a skillet over low heat, adding a splash of white wine or water to loosen the sauce. Stir gently until warmed through.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The seafood can be reheated gently in a skillet over low heat with a splash of white wine or butter to restore the sauce. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the seafood rubbery. The rice should be stored separately.
You can assemble the slow cooker with the seafood, lemon, capers, and wine up to 8 hours ahead, then refrigerate the insert. When ready to cook, add the butter mixture and cilantro, then cook on low as directed. If starting from cold, add 30 minutes to the cooking time.
Serving ideas
Serve the seafood over steamed jasmine rice, with the chili-lime butter sauce spooned generously over the top. The rice soaks up the flavorful sauce, making every bite satisfying.
Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice from the wedges to brighten the dish. Pair with a crisp green salad or sautéed greens for a complete meal.
For a more indulgent presentation, serve the seafood on a large platter with the sauce in a separate bowl for dipping. Crusty bread is excellent for sopping up the remaining butter.
This dish also works well as a main course for a special occasion, yet it's simple enough for a weeknight. Leftover sauce can be drizzled over roasted vegetables.

Crockpot Chili Lime Lobster Tails and Shrimp

Ingredients
- 4 split cold-water lobster tails
- 1 lb raw jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 fresh yellow Meyer lemons, sliced
- 2 tbsp briny capers, drained
- 1/2 cup crisp white wine
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp chili-lime seasoning
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- steamed jasmine rice, for serving
- lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Place the split lobster tails and raw jumbo shrimp in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Arrange the lemon slices over the seafood, then sprinkle with the capers. Pour the white wine over everything.
- In a small bowl, stir the melted butter with the chili-lime seasoning until combined. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the seafood and lemon slices. Sprinkle the chopped cilantro on top.
- Cover the slow cooker with the lid. Cook on the low setting for 2 hours, or until the lobster tails are opaque and the shrimp are pink and firm. Do not lift the lid during cooking to keep the heat steady.
- After 2 hours, check that the lobster tails and shrimp have reached an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). The shrimp should be pink and curled, and the lobster meat should be opaque and tender.
- Turn the slow cooker to the warm setting if not serving immediately. The seafood can stay warm for up to 30 minutes without overcooking, but for best texture, serve soon after cooking.
- Using a slotted spoon, lift the lobster tails and shrimp from the butter sauce. Place them over steamed jasmine rice on a serving platter or individual plates. Spoon some of the chili-lime butter sauce over the top.
- Garnish with fresh lemon wedges and a few extra cilantro leaves if desired. Serve immediately while warm.
