Tips for success
For the crispiest wrap, use a cast-iron skillet and preheat it well before adding the buttered wrap.
The high heat creates a golden crust quickly without drying out the filling. If making multiple wraps, keep the cooked ones warm in a 200°F (93°C) oven while toasting the rest.
Slice the wraps diagonally with a serrated knife for a clean cut that shows off the layers. Serve immediately with extra chipotle sauce for dipping.
For a more indulgent version, add a spoonful of sour cream or guacamole inside before rolling.
Variations
- Spicy Chorizo Wrap: Replace the chicken with cooked fresh chorizo sausage. Brown the chorizo in the skillet, breaking it into crumbles, then proceed with the same marinade and assembly. The chorizo adds a rich, spicy flavor that pairs perfectly with the creamy sauce.
- Veggie Black Bean Wrap: Skip the chicken and use a can of drained black beans, tossed with the same spices and lime juice. Sauté with a little olive oil until heated through. Add roasted corn or bell peppers for extra texture and color.
- BBQ Chicken Wrap: Swap the chipotle marinade for your favorite barbecue sauce mixed with a teaspoon of smoked paprika. Cook the chicken as directed, then assemble with mozzarella or cheddar. Serve with a drizzle of ranch or creamy chipotle sauce.
- Breakfast Wrap: Use the same method but fill the tortillas with scrambled eggs, cooked chorizo or bacon, and shredded cheese. Omit the chipotle marinade and instead season the eggs with salt, pepper, and a pinch of cumin. Toast in butter until golden.

Store leftover wraps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To keep the tortillas crisp, place a paper towel in the container to absorb excess moisture. Reheat in a skillet or toaster oven to restore crispness.
The marinated chicken can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and kept in the refrigerator. Cook the chicken and assemble the wraps earlier in the day, but do not toast them until just before serving.
Alternatively, freeze the uncooked assembled wraps for up to 3 months and toast directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
Serving ideas
Serve the wraps whole or sliced in half, with a generous bowl of creamy chipotle sauce for dipping.
They pair well with a simple side salad, Mexican rice, or black beans. For a lighter meal, serve with fresh pico de gallo or a squeeze of lime.
These wraps are also great for meal prep—make a batch on the weekend and enjoy them for quick lunches throughout the week. Keep the sauce separate until ready to serve to prevent sogginess. Reheat in a skillet for the best texture.

Crispy Chipotle Chicken Wrap with Creamy Sauce

Ingredients
- 2 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced
- 3 tbsp chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 4 large flour tortillas (10-inch)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 1/2 cup creamy chipotle sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the diced chicken with chipotle peppers in adobo, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and lime juice. Stir until the chicken is evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken in a single layer. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C). Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- Lay a tortilla on a clean work surface. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese in the center, then top with a quarter of the cooked chicken. Fold in the sides and roll tightly into a pocket, pressing gently to seal.
- Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each wrap, covering both sides evenly.
- Heat a clean skillet over medium heat. Place a wrap seam-side down and cook for 2 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Flip and cook the other side for 2 minutes more, until the cheese is fully melted and the tortilla is crackling.
- Transfer the cooked wraps to a cutting board and let rest for 2–3 minutes. Slice diagonally and serve with creamy chipotle sauce for dipping.
