Tips for success
To elevate the flavor of your Alfredo sauce, consider adding a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg and a splash of dry white wine to the sauce before assembling.
The nutmeg adds a subtle, warming complexity that cuts through the richness of the dairy, while the acidity of the wine balances the heavy fats. Additionally, always boil the lasagna sheets carefully; this ensures they remain intact, providing a strong foundation for the layers of chicken and cream.
If you find your lasagna layers sliding during assembly, try patting the boiled pasta sheets completely dry with paper towels before layering them. Excess water on the surface of the noodles prevents the Alfredo sauce and cheese from adhering properly, leading to structural instability.
For an extra touch of flavor and color, garnish the finished lasagna with freshly chopped Italian flat-leaf parsley or a sprinkle of cracked black pepper immediately after removing it from the oven.
Variations
- Spinach and Mushroom: Add a layer of sautéed baby spinach and sliced cremini mushrooms between the pasta sheets for an earthy flavor.
- Spicy Garlic: Stir red pepper flakes and extra minced garlic into the Alfredo sauce for a bold, spicy kick.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze assembled, unbaked lasagna tightly wrapped in foil for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before baking.
- Reheat
- Reheat individual slices in the microwave covered with a damp paper towel, or bake covered at 350°F (175°C) until hot.
Store any leftover Chicken Alfredo Lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three to four days. To preserve the moisture of the Alfredo sauce and prevent the cheese from drying out, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the cut surface of the lasagna before sealing the container lid.
Alternatively, cover the entire baking dish tightly with a layer of plastic wrap followed by a layer of aluminum foil.
This lasagna is an excellent candidate for make-ahead meals. Assemble the entire dish in the baking pan, cover it tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and store it in the refrigerator for up to twenty-four hours before baking.
When ready to cook, remove the plastic wrap, replace the foil, and bake as directed, adding about ten to fifteen minutes to the initial covered baking time to account for the cold temperature of the dish.
Serving ideas
Serve this rich and creamy lasagna alongside a crisp, acidic green salad dressed with a bright lemon vinaigrette or a classic Italian vinaigrette. The freshness and acidity of the salad greens provide a perfect palate cleanser between bites of the decadent, cheesy pasta. Roasted vegetables, such as asparagus, broccoli, or Brussels sprouts, also make excellent side dishes, adding a nice charred flavor and balance to the meal.
Warm garlic bread or crusty artisanal Italian bread is highly recommended for serving alongside the lasagna. The bread is perfect for scooping up any extra velvety Alfredo sauce left on the plate. Present the lasagna family-style in its baking dish, slicing it into generous squares at the table, and offer extra freshly grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes for guests to sprinkle on top according to their preference.

Creamy Chicken Alfredo Lasagna with Bubbling Mozzarella

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced
- 3 cups Alfredo sauce, store-bought or made ahead
- 9 lasagna sheets, boiled and drained
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Place the diced chicken breast in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is completely cooked through, opaque, and has reached an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C), about 6 to 8 minutes.
- Spread a thin layer of Alfredo sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place three boiled lasagna sheets side-by-side over the sauce. Layer one-third of the cooked chicken, one-third of the remaining Alfredo sauce, and one-third of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers twice more, ending with a generous top layer of mozzarella.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Carefully remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes until the filling is hot and bubbling vigorously around the edges.
- Turn the oven to broil on high. Position the baking dish on the top rack and broil for 2 to 3 minutes until the mozzarella cheese is melted, golden-brown, and slightly blistered. Remove from the oven and let rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
