Tips for success
For the best texture, serve the loaf warm, within 30 minutes of baking. The crust is crispiest right out of the oven, and the cheese is most stretchy when hot. If making ahead, reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10 minutes to restore crispness.
When brushing the butter, use a pastry brush to get into all the crevices of the braid.
The lemon-garlic butter not only adds flavor but also gives the crust a beautiful sheen. Don't skip the pecorino—it adds a salty, nutty finish that balances the richness.
Variations
- Spicy Chicken Alfredo: Add 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes to the chicken mixture, and use a spicy alfredo sauce or add a dash of hot sauce. Finish with extra pecorino for a kick.
- Vegetarian Alfredo Bread: Omit the chicken and use 2 cups of sautéed mushrooms and spinach instead. Increase the alfredo sauce to 1 1/2 cups and add a pinch of nutmeg.
- BBQ Chicken Braid: Replace the alfredo sauce with barbecue sauce, use shredded chicken, and swap mozzarella for cheddar. Brush with melted butter and skip the lemon-garlic butter.
- Pesto Chicken Braid: Spread 1/2 cup of pesto on the dough instead of alfredo, then layer with chicken and mozzarella. Omit the pecorino and use pine nuts for garnish.

To reheat, place the loaf on a baking sheet and warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 8-10 minutes, or until heated through. Avoid microwaving, as it will make the crust soggy.
The braided loaf can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance. Prepare the loaf, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate.
When ready to bake, let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then bake as directed. You may need to add 5 minutes to the baking time if starting from cold.
Serving ideas
Serve the braided loaf as a main dish with a simple green salad or roasted vegetables.
It also makes a fantastic appetizer for parties—just pull apart the braid and let guests help themselves. The loaf is best enjoyed warm, when the cheese is still gooey and the crust is crisp.
For a complete dinner, pair it with marinara sauce for dipping, or serve it alongside a bowl of tomato soup. The flavors are rich and comforting, so keep the sides simple. This bread is also great for game day—cut it into slices and arrange on a platter.

Braided Chicken Alfredo Pizza Bread: Comfort Bake

Ingredients
- 1 lb store-bought pizza dough, at room temperature
- 2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken
- 1 cup garlic parmesan alfredo sauce, store-bought or homemade
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 tbsp grated pecorino cheese
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the shredded rotisserie chicken with 1/2 cup of the alfredo sauce. Stir until the chicken is evenly coated. Set aside. On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a 12x10-inch rectangle.
- Spread the remaining 1/2 cup of alfredo sauce down the center of the dough, leaving a 3-inch border on each side. Top with the chicken mixture, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the top.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut 1-inch-wide strips from the edges of the dough toward the filling, stopping about 1/2 inch from the filling. You should have about 6 strips on each side.
- Starting at one end, fold the top strip over the filling, then alternate sides, crossing each strip over the filling at a slight angle. Continue until all strips are braided over the filling. Tuck the ends under the loaf.
- Transfer the braided loaf to the prepared baking sheet. Bake at 415°F (213°C) for 20-25 minutes, until the crust is deep golden brown and the cheese is bubbling. If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil.
- In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Brush the mixture over the hot loaf as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- Sprinkle the loaf with chopped parsley and grated pecorino. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before pulling apart. Serve warm, pulling the braid apart at the table.
