Before you start

Before starting, make sure the blood oranges are chilled and the peaches are at room temperature for easier dicing. Grate the chocolate just before blending so it stays light and doesn’t clump. Have all the fruit washed, the strawberries hulled, and the juice measured.

If you like a frostier glass, pop two glasses in the freezer while you prep. The whole process takes about 10 minutes, so there’s no need to do anything in advance except chill the fruit and chocolate.

Ingredients at a glance (6)
  • 2 Crimson Blood Oranges, sliced into wheels and diced
  • 2 Golden Peaches, diced
  • 1/2 cup orange white chocolate, grated into curls
  • 1/2 cup Crimson Blood Orange Juice
  • 1 cup red strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 2 cups crushed ice

Instructions

Prep the fruit and chocolate

  1. Prep the fruit and chocolate
Slice the Crimson Blood Oranges into thin wheels. Set aside one wheel for garnishing the rim of the glass. Dice the remaining orange wheels into small pieces. Dice the Golden Peaches cleanly, removing the pit and any tough skin. Grate the solid block of orange white chocolate on the box grater into a fresh pile of ivory chocolate curls. Keep the curls in a small bowl.
Look for The oranges are in neat wheels and dice, the peaches are cleanly diced, and the chocolate forms light, airy curls.
Tip Chill the chocolate block for 10 minutes before grating for cleaner curls that don't melt from the warmth of your hands.
  2. Measure the liquid and berries
Measure the Crimson Blood Orange Juice into a liquid measuring cup. Hull the red strawberries and halve them lengthwise. Have the crushed ice ready. Arrange all the prepared ingredients near the blender so the next phase goes quickly.
Look for The juice is measured, strawberries are halved, and crushed ice is at hand.
Tip If using fresh blood oranges for juice, roll them on the counter before juicing to release more liquid.

You should have neat orange wheels, small orange dice, clean peach dice, and a bowl of ivory chocolate curls. The fruit looks vibrant and juicy, and the chocolate is light and airy. Everything is ready to go into the blender.

Blend into a thick vortex

  1. Layer the ingredients in the blender
Add the diced blood oranges, sliced peaches, red strawberries, and crushed ice into the glass blender pitcher in that order. Pour the blood orange juice over the top. Lock the lid securely onto the pitcher.
Look for The pitcher is filled with colorful fruit and ice, and the juice pools around the edges.
Tip Adding the juice last helps the blender pull everything down into the blades more easily.
  2. Blend into a thick vortex
Blend on high speed for 30 to 45 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides once if needed. Continue blending until the mixture forms a thick, swirling vortex with visible fruit pieces and no large ice chunks remain. The texture should be like a thick smoothie or slushie.
Look for The mixture moves in a spiral, is thick and frosty, with small bits of fruit and chocolate visible.
Tip If the blender stalls, add a tablespoon of juice or water to help it circulate, then blend again briefly.

The mixture is thick, frosty, and moving in a swirl. You can see small pieces of fruit and maybe a few chocolate bits. The color is a bright orange-pink, and the texture is like a slushie. No large ice chunks remain.

Garnish and serve

  1. Garnish and serve
Pour the cooler into two chilled glasses. Garnish the rim of each glass with an orange wheel. Sprinkle a few of the reserved chocolate curls over the top of each drink. Serve immediately while still frosty.
Look for The glasses are filled with the vibrant, frosty orange-pink cooler, topped with an orange wheel and chocolate curls.
Tip For an extra frosty presentation, chill the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes before pouring.

The glasses are filled with the cooler, topped with an orange wheel on the rim and chocolate curls scattered on top. The drink looks vibrant and frosty, with visible fruit pieces and chocolate. Serve right away.

Common mistakes

One common mistake is over-blending, which turns the drink into a watery smoothie instead of a thick cooler. Blend just until the ice is crushed and the fruit is incorporated, about 30 to 45 seconds.

Another is using regular ice cubes instead of crushed ice—they take longer to break down and can leave sharp shards.

Also, don’t skip the chocolate curls; they add a textural and flavor contrast that makes the drink special. Finally, serve immediately, as the drink will separate and melt if left to sit.

How to tell it’s done

The cooler is done when it has a thick, slushy consistency that moves slowly in the blender and forms a vortex when blending. There should be no large ice chunks, and the color should be a uniform orange-pink with visible flecks of fruit and chocolate.

The drink should be cold enough to frost the sides of the glass. If it seems too thin, add a handful of ice and blend again; if too thick, add a tablespoon of juice and pulse.
