Tips for success
For the best presentation, use clear glasses so the coral color shows through. Chill the glasses beforehand to keep the drink cold longer.
When grating the chocolate, use a fine box grater and handle the block gently to avoid melting it with your hands. If the chocolate is too soft, chill it for 10 minutes before grating.
To make the drink even frostier, freeze the peaches and strawberries before blending. This reduces the need for ice and prevents dilution.
If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a little honey or agave to taste, though the fruit should provide enough natural sweetness. For a grown-up version, a splash of prosecco or vodka can be added, but that's optional and not shown in the video.
Variations
- Berry Citrus Cooler: Replace the strawberries with raspberries or blackberries. Use regular orange juice instead of blood orange. The color will be deeper and the flavor more tart.
- Tropical Cooler: Swap peaches for mango and add a splash of coconut milk. Use orange juice and omit the chocolate for a dairy-free version. Garnish with a lime wheel.
- Spiced Cooler: Add a pinch of ground ginger or cinnamon to the blender. This adds warmth that complements the citrus and peach flavors. Omit the chocolate for a cleaner taste.
- Creamy Vanilla Cooler: Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a splash of heavy cream to the blender. This makes the drink richer and more dessert-like. Reduce the ice to keep the consistency thick.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftover cooler in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours. Stir before serving. Texture will change.
- Freezer
- Freezing is not recommended. The drink will become icy and lose its smooth texture.
- Reheat
- Not applicable. Serve cold. If too thick from refrigeration, blend with a little juice.
This cooler is best enjoyed immediately; it does not store well. If you must keep it, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 4 hours, but expect separation. Stir well before serving. Freezing is not recommended as the texture will become icy and the fruit may become mushy.
You can prepare the fruit and grate the chocolate up to a day ahead. Store the diced fruit in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Grated chocolate can be kept in a sealed bag at room temperature. The whipped cream can be whipped and refrigerated for up to 2 hours. Assemble and blend just before serving.
Serving ideas
Serve this cooler as a refreshing afternoon drink or a playful dessert. It pairs well with light snacks like shortbread cookies or fresh fruit. The thick texture makes it a fun drink to sip slowly, savoring the blend of citrus and berry flavors. For a brunch, it's a colorful addition to the table.
For a more decadent treat, add extra chocolate curls on top or a drizzle of chocolate syrup. The whipped cream can be flavored with a drop of vanilla or orange zest.
If serving to guests, present the drink with a wide straw and a spoon for the thick parts. The blood orange wheel on the rim is both beautiful and edible.
