Tips for success
For the best flavor and texture, use high-quality ingredients. Choose Medjool dates that are plump and moist, with a deep caramel color. Natural peanut butter, made with just peanuts and salt, provides a pure, nutty taste.
Roasted salted peanuts add a satisfying crunch and a savory note that balances the sweetness. Dark chocolate with a high cocoa content not only tastes richer but also sets harder, giving a better snap. The flaky sea salt is the finishing touch—it enhances all the flavors and adds a professional touch.
When dipping the dates, use a fork to hold them, and let the excess chocolate drip off before placing them on the parchment. This prevents pools of chocolate from forming around the dates. Work quickly, as the chocolate will start to set as it cools.
If the chocolate becomes too thick, reheat it briefly. For a clean finish, use a toothpick to remove any excess chocolate from the top of the date. You can also drizzle extra chocolate over the top after chilling for a decorative effect.
Variations
- Almond Joy Stuffed Dates: Swap the peanut butter for almond butter and the peanuts for toasted almonds. Use dark chocolate and sprinkle with shredded coconut before chilling for a tropical twist.
- Salted Caramel Dates: Instead of peanut butter, fill the dates with a spoonful of thick caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade). Dip in chocolate and sprinkle with flaky sea salt for a classic caramel treat.
- Espresso Chocolate Dates: Mix 1 teaspoon of instant espresso powder into the melted dark chocolate before dipping. The coffee flavor enhances the chocolate and adds a sophisticated depth.
- White Chocolate Cranberry Dates: Use white chocolate instead of dark, and press dried cranberries into the peanut butter along with the peanuts. The tartness of the cranberries balances the sweetness.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Freezer
- Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag. Keep for up to 3 months.
- Reheat
- No reheating needed. Let thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
Store the stuffed dates in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 2 weeks, though they are best enjoyed within the first few days. The chocolate may develop a slight bloom (white spots) after a while, but this is harmless and does not affect the flavor.
For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 3 months. Place them in a single layer in a freezer-safe container, separating layers with parchment paper. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
These stuffed dates are perfect for making ahead. Prepare the recipe as directed, then store in the refrigerator. They can be made up to 2 weeks in advance, making them ideal for parties or holiday gatherings.
If you need to prepare them even further in advance, freeze them for up to 3 months. When ready to serve, simply remove from the freezer and let them sit at room temperature for 5 minutes. They will taste just as fresh as the day they were made.
Serving ideas
Serve these stuffed dates as a sweet treat after dinner, alongside coffee or tea. They also make a wonderful addition to a dessert platter, paired with fresh berries and a cheese board. For a festive touch, arrange them on a serving dish and dust with a little cocoa powder or powdered sugar. They are also great for lunchboxes—just pack them in a small container and they’ll be ready to enjoy.
These dates are also a hit at parties and potlucks. Place them on a serving platter with toothpicks for easy grabbing. They can be served at room temperature or straight from the fridge, depending on your preference. If you want to make them extra special, drizzle with melted white chocolate or sprinkle with crushed pretzels. The possibilities are endless, but the classic version is always a crowd-pleaser.

4-Ingredient Snickers Stuffed Dates: A Sweet Treat

Ingredients
- 12 Medjool dates, pitted
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup roasted salted peanuts
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
- flaky sea salt, for sprinkling, to taste
Instructions
- Using a small knife, make a lengthwise slit along the side of each Medjool date, being careful not to cut all the way through. Remove the pit if not already removed, and open the date like a book.
- Spoon or pipe about 1 teaspoon of creamy peanut butter into the cavity of each date. Press the peanut butter down gently to fill the space evenly.
- Press a few roasted salted peanuts into the peanut butter in each date, pushing them in slightly so they stick.
- Place the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until fully melted and smooth. Alternatively, melt in a double boiler over simmering water.
- Using a fork, dip each stuffed date into the melted chocolate, turning to coat completely. Lift the date out, allowing excess chocolate to drip off, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle the chocolate-coated dates with flaky sea salt while the chocolate is still wet. Place the baking sheet in the freezer and chill for 10 minutes, until the chocolate shell is firm and snaps when broken.
