Tips for success
For the best texture, shred the pork while it's still warm. Cold pork will break apart less easily. If you have leftovers, reheat them gently with a splash of the jus to keep them moist.
The jus is liquid gold—don't let it go to waste.
Spoon it over the pork, use it as a gravy for mashed potatoes, or mix it into rice for extra flavor. It also freezes well for future meals.
Variations
- Spicy Kick: Add 1-2 teaspoons of crushed red pepper flakes or a diced jalapeño to the pot before cooking. The heat will infuse into the jus and give the pork a pleasant warmth.
- Smoky Twist: Substitute the brown gravy mix with a smoked paprika-based rub or add 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke. This adds a barbecue-like depth without extra effort.
- Citrus Brightness: Place a halved orange or lemon on top of the pork before cooking. The citrus zest and juice will brighten the rich flavors and add a subtle tang.
- Herb Garden: Add a handful of fresh thyme, rosemary, or oregano sprigs on top of the roast before cooking. Remove the sprigs before shredding for an extra layer of herbal aroma.

Serving ideas
Serve the pulled pork on soft buns with coleslaw for a classic BBQ sandwich, or pile it over creamy mashed potatoes with a generous ladle of jus.
It also works well in tacos, on nachos, or stuffed into baked potatoes.
For a lighter option, serve the pork over a bed of greens or with roasted vegetables. The rich, savory flavor pairs well with bright, acidic sides like pickles or a simple green salad.

Three-Packet Butter Pork Shoulder: Easy Crockpot Pulled Pork

Ingredients
- 4 lb boneless Boston butt pork shoulder roast
- 1 oz dry ranch seasoning mix
- 0.7 oz zesty Italian dressing mix
- 1 oz brown gravy mix
- 1/2 cup salted butter (1 stick)
Instructions
- Place the pork shoulder roast in the center of a 7-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle the dry ranch seasoning, zesty Italian dressing mix, and brown gravy mix evenly over the entire surface of the roast, pressing gently so the seasonings adhere.
- Unwrap the stick of salted butter and place it whole on top of the seasoned roast. No need to melt or slice it; it will melt as the pork cooks, basting the meat and enriching the juices.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours, or on HIGH for 5 to 6 hours, until the pork is fork-tender and easily shreds. The butter and seasonings will create a savory, herb-infused jus as the pork cooks. Let it rest for 3 minutes before slicing.
- Once the pork is fork-tender, transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for at least 3 minutes, then shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and toss it in the buttery jus to coat.
- Serve the pulled pork on a plate with mashed potatoes, on buns, or over rice. Spoon some of the buttery pan jus over the top for extra moisture and flavor.
