Tips for success
For the best texture, use canned beans that are not too soft—avoid over-stirring during cooking. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mash a few beans against the side of the slow cooker before serving; this naturally thickens the liquid.
The dish tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld, so do not hesitate to make it ahead.
When reheating, add a splash of water or apple juice to loosen the sauce if it has thickened too much.
The bourbon flavor becomes more pronounced after refrigeration, so you may want to add a tiny bit of brown sugar when reheating to balance. Serve with cornbread, coleslaw, or grilled meats for a complete Southern meal.
Variations
- Spicy Bourbon Peach Beans: Add 1 finely chopped chipotle pepper in adobo sauce and 1 teaspoon of the adobo sauce to the slow cooker along with the other ingredients. This adds a smoky heat that balances the sweetness.
- Vegetarian Peach Beans: Omit the bacon and use a vegetarian barbecue sauce. Add 1 tablespoon smoked paprika and 1 teaspoon liquid smoke to mimic the smoky depth. The beans become a hearty plant-based main.
- Maple-Bourbon Peach Beans: Replace the brown sugar with 1/3 cup maple syrup and reduce the barbecue sauce to 3/4 cup. The maple adds a deeper, woodsy sweetness that pairs beautifully with the bourbon.
- Peach Bourbon Beans with Jalapeño: Stir in 1 diced jalapeño (seeds removed for less heat) along with the peaches. The jalapeño adds a fresh, spicy kick that cuts through the sweet glaze.

- Reheat on the stovetop over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, or in the slow cooker on LOW. Add a little liquid to loosen the sauce if needed.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The beans will thicken as they cool; add a little water or apple juice when reheating to restore the saucy consistency.
This dish can be made up to 2 days ahead. Prepare the recipe as directed, let it cool completely, then refrigerate. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the slow cooker on LOW, adding a splash of liquid if needed.
Serving ideas
Serve the beans hot as a side dish alongside grilled chicken, pulled pork, or burgers. They also shine at a potluck or barbecue buffet, where they can sit in the slow cooker on warm for hours.
Top with fresh grilled peach slices and crispy bacon right before serving for a vibrant finish.
These beans are hearty enough to be a vegetarian main when you omit the bacon and use a vegan barbecue sauce.
Pair with cornbread and a green salad for a satisfying meatless dinner. For a Southern-style spread, serve with collard greens, mac and cheese, and sweet tea.

Sweet & Smoky Bourbon Peach Baked Beans

Ingredients
- 2 cans (15 oz each) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 cans (15 oz each) navy beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 cups ripe peaches, peeled and diced
- 8 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
- 2 tbsp bourbon
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup smoky barbecue sauce
- Grilled peach slices, for serving
- Crumbled bacon, for serving
Instructions
- Add the drained pinto beans and navy beans to the slow cooker. Scatter the diced peaches and crumbled bacon over the beans. Pour in the bourbon, brown sugar, and barbecue sauce. Stir everything together until the sauce coats the beans evenly.
- Use a large spoon or spatula to fold the ingredients together gently, making sure the peaches and bacon are distributed throughout the beans rather than sitting on top. Scrape down the sides of the slow cooker so everything is submerged in the sauce.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it to LOW. Cook for 4 hours, stirring once or twice if possible, until the peaches have softened and caramelized into the sauce and the beans are thick and syrupy. The sauce will reduce and cling to the beans.
- After 4 hours, lift the lid and check the consistency. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon and the peaches should be tender but still hold their shape. If the beans look too saucy, cook uncovered for an additional 15 to 30 minutes to reduce.
- Ladle the hot beans into a serving bowl. Top with fresh grilled peach slices and an extra sprinkle of crumbled bacon. Serve warm, straight from the slow cooker or at a buffet.
