Tips for success
For an extra sticky and caramelized finish, transfer the slow-cooked ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet after cooking.
Brush them generously with a fresh layer of the warm barbecue sauce from the slow cooker, then broil them in the oven for 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce bubbles and chars slightly at the edges. Keep a close eye on them during broiling, as the high sugar content in the barbecue sauce can burn very quickly.
If you find that the sauce in the slow cooker is too thin at the end of the cooking time, you can easily thicken it. Transfer the liquid to a small saucepan on the stovetop and simmer it over medium heat until it reduces to your desired consistency.
Alternatively, whisk a tablespoon of cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water, stir it into the slow cooker during the last thirty minutes of cooking, and set the cooker to high.
Variations
- Spicy Honey BBQ Ribs: Mix a tablespoon of hot sauce and two tablespoons of honey into the barbecue sauce before pouring it over the ribs for a sweet and spicy kick.
- Apple Cider BBQ Ribs: Stir a quarter cup of apple cider into the barbecue sauce to add a bright, fruity acidity that balances the rich pork.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze cooked ribs in a freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag with the sauce for up to 3 months.
- Reheat
- Reheat covered with foil in a 320°F (160°C) oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or microwave on medium power until hot.
Allow any leftover country-style ribs to cool completely at room temperature for no more than two hours before storing. Place the ribs and the remaining barbecue sauce into an airtight container, ensuring the meat is well-coated to keep it moist.
Store the container in the refrigerator for up to three to four days. The flavors will continue to develop and deepen as the ribs sit in the sweet, smoky sauce.
These ribs are an excellent make-ahead option as they reheat beautifully. You can fully cook the ribs a day in advance and store them in the refrigerator inside the slow cooker insert or an airtight container.
When ready to serve, simply place them back into the slow cooker base and heat on low for 1 to 2 hours until warmed through, or warm them in a 320°F (160°C) oven covered with foil.
Serving ideas
Serve these sticky country ribs alongside classic barbecue side dishes to create a comforting, well-rounded meal. Creamy coleslaw is an excellent choice, as its cool, crisp texture and tangy dressing cut through the rich, sweet glaze of the pork. Warm, buttery cornbread or fluffy buttermilk biscuits are perfect for soaking up any extra barbecue sauce left on the plate.
For a hearty comfort food pairing, serve the tender ribs over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, creamy mac and cheese, or simple buttered noodles. Roasted green beans, corn on the cob, or a simple garden salad with a zesty vinaigrette also make wonderful, fresh accompaniments that balance out the rich, caramelized flavors of the pork.

Sticky Slow Cooker BBQ Country Ribs with Sweet Glaze

Ingredients
- 3 lb country-style pork ribs
- 2 cups thick brown-sugar BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Pat the country-style pork ribs completely dry with paper towels to ensure a proper, deep sear. Arrange the ribs in the hot skillet in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid crowding the pan.
- Sear the ribs for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they develop a deep golden-brown crust. Transfer the seared country ribs immediately to a plate and set aside. Searing locks in the natural juices and creates a rich depth of flavor that slow cooking alone cannot replicate.
- Arrange the seared pork ribs in an even layer at the bottom of the slow cooker insert. Pour the thick brown-sugar BBQ sauce generously over the ribs, ensuring every piece is completely coated. Cover the slow cooker with its lid.
- Cook on low for 6 to 7 hours (or on high for 3 to 4 hours) until the pork is exceptionally tender. The meat must reach a safe minimum internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Let the ribs rest inside the slow cooker for at least 3 minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
- Carefully remove the tender ribs from the slow cooker and transfer them to a serving platter. Spoon the remaining rich, caramelized BBQ sauce from the bottom of the slow cooker insert directly over the top of the ribs, glazing them until glistening and sticky.
