Tips for success
For the most flavorful result, use a good-quality condensed cream of mushroom soup—it's the backbone of the sauce. If you have time, you can even make your own pan gravy from drippings, but a store-bought version works perfectly.
The dry ranch seasoning adds a herbal brightness; feel free to adjust the amount to your taste. If you like a little heat, add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes.
To make the dish even more substantial, add a cup of sliced mushrooms along with the turkey. They will cook down and blend into the sauce. For a lighter version, use reduced-fat sour cream and soup, but note that the sauce may be slightly less creamy. Serve with a side of steamed green beans or a crisp salad to balance the richness. Leftovers are wonderful over toast or in a wrap the next day.
Variations
- Chicken and Broccoli: Swap the turkey for chicken breast cutlets and add 2 cups of frozen broccoli florets during the last 30 minutes of cooking. The broccoli will steam in the sauce and add color and nutrition.
- Mushroom Lover's: Add 8 oz of sliced cremini or button mushrooms along with the turkey. They will soften and meld into the sauce, intensifying the mushroom flavor. You can also use a cream of mushroom soup with extra mushroom pieces.
- Spicy Ranch: Add 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes or a diced jalapeño to the slow cooker for a spicy kick. You can also use a spicy ranch seasoning blend if available.
- Herb and Garlic: Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and 1 teaspoon of dried thyme or rosemary to the sauce. This adds aromatic depth and pairs well with the creamy gravy.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of broth to restore the sauce's creamy texture.
- Freezer
- Freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until hot and bubbling. Add a little broth or water if the sauce is too thick.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The sauce will thicken as it cools; when reheating, add a splash of broth or water to loosen it. The turkey can be reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop over low heat until warmed through. Do not leave the cooked dish at room temperature for more than 2 hours; refrigerate promptly.
You can assemble the raw ingredients in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate. In the morning, place the insert into the slow cooker and cook as directed. This is a great time-saver for busy mornings.
Just be sure to add an extra 30 minutes to the cooking time because the ingredients start cold. Alternatively, cook the entire dish, cool, and refrigerate for up to 3 days; reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.
Serving ideas
This dish is best served hot, spooned over a bed of warm buttered egg noodles, which soak up the luscious sauce beautifully. Mashed potatoes are another classic choice, as are steamed rice or creamy polenta.
The turkey and sauce are rich and satisfying, so a simple green vegetable like steamed broccoli or green beans makes a good contrast. A sprinkle of fresh parsley adds a pop of color and freshness.
For a complete meal, serve the turkey with a side of crusty bread for dipping into the leftover sauce. The creamy, savory flavors are comforting and family-friendly.
If you have extra sauce, it's wonderful drizzled over roasted vegetables or used as a gravy for mashed potatoes. This is a dish that invites seconds, so consider making a double batch if you have a large slow cooker and a hungry crowd.

Sour Cream Ranch Mushroom Turkey Cutlets: One-Pot Crockpot Dinner

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb boneless turkey breast cutlets
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 oz dry buttermilk ranch seasoning mix (about 2 tbsp)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup savory pan gravy (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Place the turkey cutlets in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker, spreading them out in a single layer. Pour the condensed cream of mushroom soup over the turkey, then sprinkle the dry ranch seasoning evenly over the top.
- Dollop the sour cream over the turkey and soup mixture. Pour the savory pan gravy over everything, spreading it gently with a spoon to cover the turkey as much as possible.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours, or on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours, until the turkey is cooked through and tender. Avoid opening the lid during cooking to keep the heat steady.
- After the minimum cooking time, check the turkey by inserting an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of a cutlet. It should read at least 165°F (74°C). If not, continue cooking for another 30 minutes and check again.
- Once the turkey is cooked through, turn off the slow cooker and let the dish rest for 5 minutes. Serve the turkey and sauce over warm buttered egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.
