Tips for success
For the best flavor, let the olive giardiniera salad drain slightly before adding, so the dip doesn't become too watery.
Reserve the oil to drizzle over the finished dip if desired. If the dip thickens as it sits, stir in a little warm water or olive oil to restore a creamy consistency.
Serve the dip directly from the slow cooker to keep it warm for the entire party. If you're transporting it, carry the slow cooker in a thermal bag and plug it in at your destination.
The dip can be kept warm for up to two hours, but stir it occasionally to prevent a skin from forming on top.
Variations
- Spicy Muffuletta Dip: Add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes or a chopped jalapeño to the slow cooker with the other ingredients. The heat complements the briny olives and rich cheese without overpowering them.
- Chicken Muffuletta Dip: For a heartier version, stir in 2 cups of shredded cooked chicken (rotisserie or leftover) along with the other ingredients. This turns the dip into a more substantial main-course appetizer.
- Vegetarian Muffuletta Dip: Omit the salami and mortadella and increase the olive salad to 3 cups. Add 1 cup of chopped artichoke hearts for extra texture and flavor. The result is a briny, cheesy dip that's perfect for vegetarians.
- Smoky Muffuletta Dip: Replace half of the provolone with smoked provolone or add 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika. The smoky notes pair well with the cured meats and olives, adding depth.

When ready, place the insert in the slow cooker and cook on low for 2 hours, adding 15–30 minutes if starting from cold. Alternatively, cook the dip fully, then cool and refrigerate; reheat gently before serving.
Serving ideas
Serve this dip as a crowd-pleasing appetizer at parties, game days, or holiday gatherings. It pairs beautifully with crusty bread, crackers, or fresh vegetables. For a more substantial snack, spoon it over toasted baguette slices or use it as a filling for small sliders.
For a true New Orleans experience, serve the dip with sesame bread reminiscent of the original Muffuletta loaf. The bread's nutty flavor and crisp texture contrast wonderfully with the creamy, briny dip. Provide small spoons for those who want to pile it onto their bread.

Crockpot Muffuletta Dip: Savory Slow-Cooker Perfection

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups diced Genoa salami
- 1 1/2 cups diced mortadella
- 1 1/2 cups chopped Italian olive giardiniera salad
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 1/2 cups shredded provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Toasted sesame Italian bread, for dipping, to taste
Instructions
- Place the diced Genoa salami, diced mortadella, chopped Italian olive giardiniera salad, softened cream cheese, shredded provolone, and shredded mozzarella into the slow cooker insert. Use a spoon to gently stir everything together so the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Cover the slow cooker with its lid. Set the temperature to LOW. Let the dip cook for 2 hours, stirring occasionally if possible, until the cheese is fully melted and the mixture is bubbling gently around the edges.
- After 2 hours, stir the dip thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Make sure the cream cheese is completely incorporated and the melted provolone and mozzarella form a creamy, cohesive mixture. The dip should be thick and spoonable, not watery.
- Turn the slow cooker to the WARM setting (if available) to keep the dip at serving temperature. Leave the lid on to retain heat. The dip can stay warm for up to 2 hours, but stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.
- Scoop the warm Muffuletta Dip directly from the slow cooker into a serving bowl or serve straight from the insert. Accompany with toasted sesame Italian bread wedges for dipping. Serve immediately while hot and bubbly.
