Tips for success
To achieve an even deeper flavor, you can sear the portioned ribs in a hot skillet with a little oil before placing them in the slow cooker.
This extra step helps lock in the juices and creates a beautiful caramelized crust on the exterior of the meat, which pairs wonderfully with the sweet cola glaze. However, if you are short on time, skipping this step still yields incredibly tender and delicious results.
If you prefer a caramelized, charred finish on your ribs, transfer the glazed ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet after slow cooking.
Brush them with an extra layer of the reduced cola glaze from the pot and broil them on high for 3 to 5 minutes. Watch them closely to prevent burning, as the sugars in the glaze can char quickly, creating a beautiful caramelized crust.
Variations
- Spicy Cola Ribs: Add a sliced jalapeño or a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the slow cooker to balance the sweet cola glaze with a subtle kick.
- Citrus Cola Ribs: Squeeze the juice of a fresh orange or lime into the slow cooker along with the cola to add a bright, zesty contrast to the sweet glaze.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
- Freezer
- Freeze the cooked ribs in a freezer-safe bag with the glaze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven covered with foil for 15 minutes, brushing with extra glaze to keep them moist.
Allow any leftover ribs to cool completely at room temperature for no more than 2 hours before storing. Place the ribs and any remaining glaze in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator.
Properly stored, the ribs will remain fresh and flavorful for up to 3 to 4 days, making them an excellent option for easy weekday lunches or dinners.
These ribs can easily be prepared ahead of time. You can portion the ribs and place them in the slow cooker insert, covered, in the refrigerator the night before. In the morning, simply add the cola, set the cooker, and let it run. Alternatively, cook the ribs fully, store them in the refrigerator, and reheat them with the glaze when ready to serve.
Serving ideas
Serve these tender ribs hot, piled high on a large platter with plenty of extra glaze spooned over the top. Because they are incredibly sticky, be sure to provide plenty of napkins or wet wipes for guests.
They pair beautifully with classic barbecue side dishes such as creamy coleslaw, buttery cornbread, baked beans, or a crisp green salad to balance the sweetness of the glaze.
For a modern twist, shred any meat that falls off the bone and serve it piled onto toasted brioche buns with a drizzle of the reduced cola glaze and a scoop of cool coleslaw. This makes for an incredible pulled pork-style sandwich that is perfect for casual gatherings, picnics, or weekend lunches with family and friends.

Tender Slow Cooker Cola Ribs with a Sticky Glaze

Ingredients
- 4 lb baby back pork ribs, cut into portions
- 2 cups cola
Instructions
- Cut the racks of baby back pork ribs into three- or four-rib portions so they fit easily inside the slow cooker insert. Ensure the ribs are clean and patted dry with paper towels before placing them into the cooker.
- Arrange the portioned pork ribs upright or layered inside the slow cooker. Pour the cola directly over the ribs, ensuring they are partially submerged. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours, or on high for 4 hours, until the meat is tender.
- Brush the accumulated juices and cola glaze over the ribs inside the slow cooker. Turn the cooker to high for the final 30 minutes of cooking to let the dark cola glaze bubble vigorously and thicken. Check that the pork ribs reach a safe internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) using a meat thermometer, then let them rest for at least 3 minutes before serving.
