Tips for success

For the most flavorful result, use ripe, in-season peaches. They should be fragrant and give slightly to pressure. If you can only find underripe peaches, you can add an extra tablespoon of honey to compensate for the lack of natural sweetness. Slicing the peaches into even wedges ensures they cook at the same rate and hold their shape.

If you prefer a thicker sauce, you have two options: after the chicken is cooked, remove it and the peaches to a plate, then transfer the sauce to a small saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 5–10 minutes until reduced.

Or, you can stir in a slurry of 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Both methods give you a glossy, clingy sauce.

Variations

  • Spicy Peach Chicken: Add 1–2 teaspoons of sriracha or red pepper flakes along with the honey and soy sauce for a sweet-heat kick. The spice will mellow during cooking, leaving a warm, subtle heat that pairs perfectly with the peaches.
  • Ginger-Soy Peach Chicken: Stir in 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger with the honey and soy sauce. The ginger adds a bright, zesty note that complements the fruit and rounds out the savory flavors.
  • Peach Chicken Tacos: Shred the cooked chicken and serve it in warm corn tortillas with the peaches, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of crumbled cotija cheese. The sweet-savory filling is delicious in taco form.
  • Balsamic Peach Chicken: Replace the soy sauce with 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey. The balsamic adds a tangy, slightly sweet depth that pairs beautifully with the peaches.

Storage and make-ahead

Fridge
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freezer
Freeze cooled leftovers in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating gently on the stovetop or microwave.
Reheat
Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 1–2 minutes, or in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water or broth.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The chicken will continue to absorb the sauce, so it may become even more flavorful.

When reheating, add a splash of water or chicken broth to loosen the sauce if it has thickened too much. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop until warmed through.

This recipe is ideal for meal prep. You can assemble the raw ingredients in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate.

In the morning, place the insert in the slow cooker and cook as directed. You can also cook the full recipe, let it cool, and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat individual portions as needed.

Serving ideas

Serve the peach honey soy chicken over steamed basmati rice to soak up the delicious sauce. The rice’s neutral flavor lets the sweet-savory glaze shine.

For a more complete meal, add a side of steamed green beans or a crisp cucumber salad dressed with rice vinegar and sesame oil. The brightness of the vegetables balances the richness of the chicken.

For a low-carb option, serve the chicken and peaches over cauliflower rice or alongside a bed of sautéed spinach. The sauce is so flavorful that you won’t miss the grains. You can also slice the chicken and serve it in warm corn tortillas with a spoonful of the peaches and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro for a fun twist.

Frequently asked questions

Can this recipe be made with chicken breasts instead of thighs?
Yes, boneless skinless chicken breasts can be substituted. However, they cook faster and can dry out more easily in a slow cooker. Reduce the cooking time to 3–4 hours on low, and check for doneness at 165°F (74°C) using an instant-read thermometer. The sauce may be thinner because the breasts release less fat, so you can thicken it with a cornstarch slurry if needed.
Can frozen peaches be used instead of fresh?
Frozen sliced peaches work well in this recipe. Thaw them first and drain off any excess liquid to avoid making the sauce too watery. If you add them frozen, increase the cook time by about 30 minutes. The frozen peaches will soften and release their juices just like fresh ones, though they may be slightly more delicate.
Why does the sauce turn out thin?
The sauce can be thin if the peaches release a lot of juice or if the slow cooker is set to high, which doesn’t allow enough time for reduction. To thicken it, remove the chicken and peaches after cooking, then simmer the sauce on the stovetop for 5–10 minutes. Alternatively, stir in a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water) during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
Can this dish be prepared in advance and reheated?
Absolutely. The cooked chicken and peaches can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of water or broth to loosen the sauce if it has thickened. The flavors continue to meld, making it even more delicious the next day.
Is this recipe gluten-free?
The recipe is naturally gluten-free if you use tamari or coconut aminos instead of regular soy sauce, which contains wheat. Always check the labels of your ingredients to ensure they are certified gluten-free. The chicken, peaches, honey, and rice are all gluten-free as long as they are not processed in facilities with gluten cross-contamination.

Peach Honey Soy Chicken Thighs: 5-Ingredient Crockpot Dinner

Prep 10 minCook 6 hTotal 6 h 10 minServes 4
Slow-cooked chicken thighs glazed with honey-soy sauce and peaches in a black Crockpot

Ingredients

  • 6 boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 4 cups sliced ripe peaches (about 4 peaches)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cups cooked basmati rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken thighs in the bottom of a 6-quart or larger slow cooker in a single layer, slightly overlapping if needed. Scatter the sliced peaches evenly over the top of the chicken.
  2. In a small liquid measuring cup, stir together the honey and soy sauce until fully combined. The mixture will be thin and syrupy.
  3. Drizzle the honey-soy mixture evenly over the chicken and peaches. Do not stir — the sauce will distribute as it cooks.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours, or until the chicken is fork-tender and registers 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part. The sauce will have reduced and thickened slightly.
  5. Use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature of the thickest part of a thigh. It must read at least 165°F (74°C) to be safe to eat.
  6. Turn off the slow cooker and let the chicken rest in the sauce for 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and the sauce to cling to the meat.
  7. Spoon the hot basmati rice onto serving plates. Using a serving spoon, lift the chicken thighs and peaches out of the sauce and place them over the rice. Spoon extra sauce over the top.
