Tips for success
For the best texture, use a high-speed blender and blend just until the mixture is smooth. Over-blending can incorporate too much air, making the drink foamy and thin.
If you prefer a thicker drink, freeze the honeydew melon cubes for an hour before blending; this reduces the need for ice and keeps the drink frosty longer.
To make clear ice at home, freeze filtered water in a small cooler or an ice mold designed for clear cubes. The slower freezing process removes air bubbles and impurities, resulting in crystal-clear ice that melts slowly.
If clear ice is not available, use large ice cubes and strain the drink immediately after blending to remove any melted water.
Variations
- Coconut Matcha Cooler: Replace the heavy cream with coconut cream and the condensed milk with sweetened condensed coconut milk for a dairy-free version. Add a pinch of toasted coconut flakes on top for extra texture.
- Mint Melon Cooler: Add 4-5 fresh mint leaves to the blender along with the other ingredients. The mint brightens the flavor and adds a refreshing herbal note that pairs beautifully with honeydew.
- Sparkling Melon Cooler: After blending, pour the thick mixture into a glass and top with a splash of sparkling water or club soda. This creates a lighter, effervescent drink with a frothy top.
- Extra Matcha Kick: Add 1/2 teaspoon of matcha powder to the blender along with the other ingredients for a stronger green tea flavor. Adjust the amount to taste, as matcha can be bitter if overdone.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftover blended mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Stir well before serving; texture will be thinner.
- Freezer
- Freeze the blended mixture in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Thaw slightly before serving and re-blend with a little heavy cream.
- Reheat
- Not applicable. This is a cold beverage; do not heat.
This drink is best enjoyed immediately, as the texture changes upon standing. If you must store it, refrigerate the blended mixture in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
Stir well before serving, but note that the texture will be thinner and less frosty. Whipped cream topping should be added just before serving.
The honeydew melon can be diced and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The matcha white chocolate can be grated and kept in a sealed container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
However, the blended drink itself is not ideal for making ahead, as it separates and loses its frosty texture.
Serving ideas
Serve the cooler immediately after blending, while it's still thick and frosty. Pour it into a chilled crystal glass for a beautiful presentation. Top with a generous swirl of whipped sweet cream just before serving. The drink is a perfect accompaniment to a light brunch or as a refreshing afternoon treat.
For a more decadent presentation, garnish the whipped cream with a few extra matcha white chocolate shavings or a small sprig of mint. The drink pairs well with buttery shortbread cookies or a slice of pound cake. It's also a lovely non-alcoholic option for summer parties or baby showers.

Matcha Honeydew Melon Sweet Cream Milk Cooler

Ingredients
- 2 cups diced honeydew melon
- 1/2 cup grated matcha white chocolate
- 1/4 cup condensed milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup clear ice cubes
- Whipped sweet cream, for serving
Instructions
- Slice the honeydew melon in half and scoop out the seeds. Remove the rind with a knife, then cut the pale green flesh into small cubes. Measure 2 cups of diced melon and set aside. Grate the block of matcha white chocolate on the large holes of a box grater to make vibrant green shavings.
- Measure the condensed milk and heavy cream. Have the clear ice cubes ready. Clear ice melts more slowly, keeping the drink cold without diluting it too quickly.
- Add the honeydew melon cubes, grated matcha white chocolate, condensed milk, heavy cream, and clear ice to a blender pitcher. Blend on high until the mixture is thick and frosty, with a smooth, pastel-green color.
- Pour the thick frosty mixture from the blender pitcher into a crystal glass. Finish with a generous swirl of whipped sweet cream on top. Serve immediately.
