Tips for success
For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed lemon juice and grate the zest before juicing. The zest adds a fragrant, citrusy note that brightens the whole dish.
If you prefer a stronger lemon flavor, add a little more zest at the end. Also, don’t skip the rest time for the chicken—it’s crucial for maintaining juiciness.
To keep the sauce from becoming too thick, reserve a cup of pasta water before draining. Adding a splash while tossing can loosen the sauce to the perfect consistency.
If the sauce does split, whisk in a tablespoon of cold cream or a little more parmesan to bring it back together.
Variations
- Add Vegetables: Sauté sliced mushrooms, spinach, or peas along with the garlic for extra nutrition and color. Add them after the chicken is removed and before the cream, cooking until softened.
- Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of cayenne with the garlic to give the sauce a gentle heat. This complements the smoky paprika on the chicken nicely.
- Herb Infusion: Stir in fresh basil or thyme along with the parsley at the end for an herby twist. These herbs pair well with lemon and garlic, adding another layer of freshness.
- Shrimp Alfredo: Replace chicken with large shrimp, searing them for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and cooked through. Proceed with the same sauce and pasta for a seafood version.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of cream or milk to maintain creaminess.
- Freezer
- Freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat gently, adding a little liquid to refresh the sauce.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a skillet over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through. Add a splash of cream or pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
The sauce will thicken when chilled; reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of milk or cream to restore its silky texture. The pasta may absorb some sauce, so adding a little liquid helps.
The chicken can be seared and refrigerated up to 2 days ahead; slice and add to the pasta when reheating. The sauce can also be made in advance and stored separately for up to 2 days. When ready to serve, reheat the sauce gently and toss with freshly cooked pasta.
Serving ideas
Serve this lemon garlic chicken alfredo hot, straight from the skillet, with extra lemon wedges on the side for those who want more brightness.
A sprinkle of fresh parsley adds color and a hint of freshness. Pair with a crisp green salad and garlic bread for a complete meal.
For a low-carb option, serve the chicken and sauce over zucchini noodles or steamed vegetables instead of pasta. The sauce is rich enough to complement many sides. This dish also works well as a main course for a dinner party—it’s elegant yet approachable.

Lemon Garlic Chicken Alfredo: 15-Minute Creamy Pasta

Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halved horizontally
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp lemon zest
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 12 oz fettuccine pasta
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While the skillet heats, season the halved chicken breasts with smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Place the chicken in the skillet and cook for 4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer the chicken to a plate and let rest.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 3 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the meat moist.
- Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet with the pan drippings. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Pour in the heavy cream, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Whisk to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Gradually whisk in the grated parmesan cheese until melted and the sauce is smooth. Continue to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce coats the back of a spoon.
- While the sauce simmers, cook the fettuccine in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain well.
- Add the drained fettuccine to the skillet with the sauce. Toss vigorously to coat the pasta evenly in the creamy sauce, adding a splash of pasta water if the sauce is too thick.
- Slice the rested chicken and arrange on top of the pasta. Sprinkle with cracked black pepper and fresh parsley. Serve immediately.
