Tips for success
For the best texture, don't rush the slow cooking. Low heat for 4–5 hours yields the most tender wings. If you're short on time, you can cook on high for 2–3 hours, but the meat won't be quite as fall-off-the-bone.
The sauce reduction step is crucial—it concentrates the flavors and creates that sticky glaze. If the sauce seems too salty, add a squeeze of lemon juice or a splash of rice vinegar to balance.
To get a caramelized finish without firing up the broiler, you can transfer the glazed wings to a baking sheet and broil for 2–3 minutes, watching closely. This adds a slight char and extra stickiness.
For a thicker glaze, you can whisk in a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water) during the simmering step. This is a great trick if you prefer a more clingy sauce.
Variations
- Spicy Honey Sriracha: Add 1–2 tablespoons sriracha or your favorite hot sauce to the honey-soy mixture. The heat balances the sweetness. For extra heat, add sliced fresh chilies with the garlic.
- Orange Ginger Glaze: Replace half the soy sauce with fresh orange juice and add 1 tablespoon grated ginger. The citrus brightens the sauce and pairs beautifully with the honey.
- Sesame Garlic: Stir in 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving. The nutty aroma adds depth to the sticky glaze.
- Maple Dijon: Swap the honey for maple syrup and add 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard. The mustard adds tang and helps emulsify the sauce.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The sauce will thicken; add a splash of water when reheating.
- Freezer
- Freeze cooked wings in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10–15 minutes, or in the microwave in 30-second bursts. Add a splash of water if the sauce is too thick.
Leftover wings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The sauce will thicken as it cools; reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of water if needed to loosen.
The garlic cloves will become even softer and more spreadable—they're delicious mashed into the sauce.
You can assemble the raw ingredients in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate. In the morning, place the insert in the slow cooker and cook on low as directed.
Add 30 minutes to the cooking time if starting from cold. The sauce can also be reduced ahead of time and stored separately; reheat and toss with the cooked wings just before serving.
Serving ideas
Serve these wings over steamed jasmine or basmati rice to soak up the glossy sauce. The garlic cloves become sweet and buttery—spread them over the rice or eat them whole. A sprinkle of sliced scallions adds freshness and color. For a complete meal, add a simple green salad or steamed broccoli on the side.
These wings are also great as an appetizer or party food. Serve them on a platter with toothpicks and extra sauce on the side for dipping. If serving as a main, allow about 4–5 wings per person. The sauce is also delicious drizzled over roasted vegetables or used as a dipping sauce for spring rolls.

Garlic Scallion Honey Soy Chicken Wings: Easy Slow Cooker

Ingredients
- 2 lb split chicken wingettes and drumettes
- 12 peeled whole garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup sliced scallions (green parts only)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
Instructions
- Place the chicken wingettes and drumettes in the slow cooker insert in a single layer as much as possible. Scatter the whole garlic cloves and sliced scallions over the chicken.
- Drizzle the honey and soy sauce evenly over the chicken and aromatics. Do not stir.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through. The sauce will thin out during cooking—that's normal.
- Using tongs, transfer the chicken to a plate. Pour the remaining sauce into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until thickened and reduced by about half.
- Return the chicken to the slow cooker or a large bowl. Pour the thickened glaze over the chicken and toss to coat evenly. Serve hot, with any extra glaze drizzled on top.
