Tips for success
For a more intense garlic flavor, stir a small amount of garlic powder or finely minced fresh garlic into the melted butter before brushing it over the crescent dough. This adds an extra layer of savory depth to the crust, which perfectly complements the creamy, seafood-based filling found within the ring.
If the edges of the crescent ring begin to brown too quickly while the center is still cooking, tent the ring loosely with aluminum foil.
This prevents the delicate tips of the pastry from burning while allowing the heat to continue circulating through the center to ensure the shrimp filling is cooked through and safe to eat.
Variations
- Spicy Cajun Ring: Add one teaspoon of Cajun seasoning to the shrimp and cream cheese mixture for a spicy kick. The heat balances the richness of the cheese and adds a bold flavor profile to the final dish.
- Spinach and Shrimp: Fold in a half cup of finely chopped, well-drained cooked spinach into the filling. This addition introduces a fresh, earthy flavor and vibrant color to the ring without compromising the creamy texture of the dish.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Reheat
- Reheat slices in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes until warmed through.
Allow any leftover crescent ring to cool completely at room temperature for no more than two hours before transferring it to an airtight container.
Keep it refrigerated to maintain food safety. It is best consumed within two days, as the pastry will lose its crisp texture over time and become softer due to the moisture in the filling.
The filling can be prepared up to one day in advance and stored in the refrigerator in a sealed container. However, do not assemble the ring until just before baking, as the raw dough will absorb moisture from the filling and become soggy if left to sit. Assemble and bake the ring fresh for the best results.
Serving ideas
Serve the seafood crescent ring immediately after the resting period to enjoy the contrast between the hot, creamy center and the crisp, golden crust.
Place the ring on a large platter or a wooden board to allow guests to easily pull or cut off their own slices. It pairs well with a side of fresh, crisp greens to balance the richness.
For a more formal presentation, garnish the serving platter with additional sprigs of fresh parsley or lemon wedges.
The acidity from the lemon juice can help brighten the flavors of the shrimp and cheese. Provide small plates and forks, as the warm filling can be quite soft and may be easier to eat with utensils.

Garlic Butter Seafood Crescent Ring for Easy Entertaining

Ingredients
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough, store-bought or made ahead
- 1 lb peeled and deveined shrimp, chopped
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Keep the raw shrimp refrigerated until right before mixing, limiting its time out of refrigeration to under 30 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the chilled chopped shrimp, softened cream cheese, and shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix thoroughly until the shrimp is evenly coated and suspended in the cheese blend.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough triangles and arrange them on a baking sheet in a circular pattern, with the wide ends overlapping in the center to form a ring shape. Spoon the shrimp and cheese filling evenly around the inner edge of the dough ring. Fold the pointed ends of the dough over the filling and tuck them securely under the inner edge to seal the ring.
- Brush the top of the dough with the melted butter and sprinkle with fresh parsley. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) until the pastry is golden brown and the internal temperature of the shrimp reaches 145°F (63°C). Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
