Tips for success
For the softest bread, use whole milk and do not overbake. The internal temperature of the bread should reach 190°F (88°C), but the cheese should be melted and bubbly.
If the tops are browning too quickly, tent the dish with foil. Let the bread rest for a few minutes before pulling apart—the cheese will set slightly, making it easier to handle.
To get a nice golden crust, brush the dough balls with garlic butter before baking and again right after they come out of the oven. The second brushing adds flavor and shine.
If you prefer a more pronounced garlic flavor, add an extra clove of garlic to the butter. For a herbier taste, stir in a teaspoon of dried oregano or thyme.
Variations
- Herb and Parmesan: Replace the kaşar cheese with grated Parmesan and add a teaspoon of dried Italian herbs to the garlic butter. The Parmesan will create a crisper, more savory crust.
- Spicy Jalapeño: Add a few slices of pickled jalapeño on top of the cherry tomato before baking. The heat from the jalapeño cuts through the richness of the cheese and butter.
- Bacon and Cheddar: Stir crumbled cooked bacon into the shredded cheese mixture. Use sharp cheddar instead of kaşar for a smoky, savory flavor. Omit the cherry tomatoes for a heartier bite.
- Sweet Cinnamon: For a dessert version, omit the garlic and parsley from the butter, and toss the dough balls in cinnamon sugar instead of cheese. Bake as directed and drizzle with a simple glaze.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or toaster oven to restore crispness.
- Freezer
- Freeze unbaked assembled bites on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Bake from frozen, adding 10–15 minutes.
- Reheat
- Reheat baked bites in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–7 minutes until warm. For a crispier top, use the broiler for the last minute.
Store leftover bread bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. To reheat, place them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–7 minutes until warm and the cheese is melted again. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the bread soggy.
The dough can be prepared through the first rise and refrigerated overnight. Let it come to room temperature before shaping. Alternatively, assemble the bread bites completely, cover the dish, and refrigerate for up to 8 hours before baking. Add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking straight from the fridge.
Serving ideas
Serve these bread bites warm, straight from the oven, so the cheese is at its stretchiest. Place the baking dish in the center of the table and let everyone pull apart their own piece.
The cherry tomatoes add a burst of acidity that balances the rich cheese and butter. Pair with a simple green salad or a bowl of marinara sauce for dipping.
These bites are best enjoyed the day they are made, but they can be reheated successfully. For a party, set them out on a large platter with toothpicks for easy grabbing.
They also make a great side dish for soups, stews, or grilled meats. The pull-apart format encourages sharing and makes them fun for kids and adults alike.

Garlic Butter Cheese Stuffed Pull-Apart Bread Bites

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warm milk
- 100 ml vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 100 g unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups shredded kaşar cheese
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, vegetable oil, egg, sugar, yeast, and salt. Stir gently to dissolve the yeast. Add the all-purpose flour and mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- While the dough rises, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic, parsley, and salt, and stir to combine. Remove from heat and set aside. Once the dough has doubled, punch it down and divide it into 24 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small ball. Dip each ball into the garlic butter, coating all sides, then roll it in the shredded kaşar cheese, pressing gently to adhere.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Nestle a cherry tomato slice into the center of each dough ball. Bake for 35 minutes until the bread is puffed, golden brown, and the cheese is bubbling. Remove from the oven and brush the tops with the remaining garlic butter. Let cool for 5 minutes before pulling apart.
