Tips for success
For those who enjoy a bit of heat, consider adding a dash of hot sauce or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes to the slow cooker before turning it on. These additions can brighten the flavors and provide a subtle kick that complements the richness of the cream cheese and the savory notes of the beef. Adding these at the start ensures the heat is well distributed throughout the entire batch.
To elevate the presentation, serve the dip in a pre-warmed serving bowl to keep it at an optimal temperature for longer. You can also garnish the top with a sprinkle of fresh chopped parsley or thinly sliced green onions just before serving. These simple additions add a pop of color and freshness that contrasts beautifully with the rich, heavy nature of the dip, making it look as good as it tastes.
Variations
- Spicy Cheesesteak Dip: Add two finely diced jalapeño peppers and a teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the slow cooker before starting. This variation adds a pleasant heat that cuts through the richness of the cream cheese.
- Mushroom and Swiss Dip: Replace the bell peppers with sliced mushrooms and add a cup of shredded Swiss cheese during the final 30 minutes of cooking. This creates a deeper, earthier flavor profile.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- Freezing is not recommended as the cream cheese base may separate and lose its smooth texture upon thawing.
- Reheat
- Reheat gently in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until warmed through, or microwave in 30-second intervals until hot.
Store any leftover dip in an airtight container to maintain freshness. Allow the dip to cool for no more than two hours at room temperature before transferring it to the refrigerator.
Keeping it properly sealed will prevent it from absorbing other odors in the fridge and help retain its creamy texture. When stored correctly, the dip will remain safe and flavorful for up to three days after the initial preparation.
This dip is an excellent candidate for making ahead. You can assemble all the ingredients in the slow cooker insert, cover it, and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before you plan to cook it.
When ready, simply place the insert into the slow cooker base and add an extra 30 to 45 minutes to the cooking time to account for the cold start. This makes it a perfect choice for stress-free hosting.
Serving ideas
Serve this Philly cheesesteak dip hot, accompanied by a variety of dippers that can stand up to its thick, hearty texture. Toasted baguette slices, sturdy pita chips, or even fresh, crunchy bell pepper strips are all excellent choices.
The contrast between the warm, creamy dip and the crisp, cool vegetables provides a satisfying eating experience that guests will appreciate. Consider setting out a spread of different options so everyone can choose their favorite way to enjoy it.
For a more substantial snack, you can also serve the dip alongside soft pretzel bites or even use it as a filling for quick sliders. The versatility of the flavor profile means it pairs well with both salty, crunchy snacks and softer, bread-based options.
Regardless of how you choose to serve it, ensure there is plenty of it to go around, as this dish is consistently a favorite that is frequently requested at gatherings and parties.

- 1 lb shaved beef
- 1 cup diced peppers
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 1 tbsp garlic pepper seasoning
- 16 oz cream cheese, cubed
