Tips for success

For the crispiest fries, make sure they are in a single layer on the baking sheet and not overcrowded. If you're making a large batch, use two sheets or cook in batches.

To keep the lavaş from drying out, warm them just before assembling and cover with a damp towel. When toasting the wraps, press down gently with a spatula to ensure even browning and to help the wrap hold its shape.

If you want to add a sauce, a drizzle of garlic yogurt or a spicy mayo would be delicious, but the recipe as written is already packed with flavor. For a more indulgent version, add extra cheese or a spoonful of ranch dressing.

The key is to balance the richness with the tangy pickles and fresh lettuce. Don't skip the toasting step—it's what gives the wrap its signature crunch.

Variations

  • Spicy Buffalo: Toss the chopped chicken tenders in buffalo sauce before adding to the fries. Add a drizzle of ranch or blue cheese dressing and a few celery slices for extra crunch.
  • BBQ Bacon: Add crumbled cooked bacon and a drizzle of barbecue sauce to the filling. Swap the cheddar for smoked Gouda for a deeper, smokier flavor.
  • Veggie Loaded: Replace the chicken with crispy fried mushrooms or halloumi. Add sautéed peppers and onions for a vegetarian version that’s still hearty and satisfying.
  • Breakfast Wrap: For a breakfast twist, add a scrambled egg and swap the pickles for sliced avocado. Use hash browns instead of fries for a morning-style wrap.

Storage and make-ahead

Fridge
Store leftover wrapped in foil or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or toaster oven to restore crispness.
Freezer
Freeze assembled but untoasted wraps for up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in the fridge, then toast in a skillet until hot and crispy.
Reheat
Reheat refrigerated wraps in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side, or in a toaster oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.

Leftover wraps can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, place them in a skillet over medium heat for a few minutes per side, or in a toaster oven until crispy. Avoid microwaving, as it will make the exterior soggy.

You can prepare the components ahead of time: cook the fries and chicken, chop the toppings, and store them separately in the fridge for up to 2 days.

When ready to serve, reheat the fries and chicken, then assemble and toast the wraps. The lavaş can be warmed just before rolling.

Serving ideas

Serve the wraps whole or sliced in half to show off the gorgeous cross-section. They’re perfect as a main course for two, or cut into smaller pieces for a party snack.

Pair them with extra pickles and a side of hot sauce for dipping. The wraps are best enjoyed immediately, while the exterior is still crisp and the cheese is gooey.

For a complete meal, add a simple side salad or some roasted vegetables. The wraps are hearty enough to stand alone, but a light, tangy slaw would complement the richness nicely. If you’re feeding a crowd, you can make several wraps and slice them into pinwheels for easy sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Can this wrap be made ahead of time?
Yes, the components can be prepared ahead and stored separately. Cook the fries and chicken, chop the toppings, and refrigerate for up to 2 days. When ready to serve, reheat the fries and chicken, then assemble and toast the wraps. Assembled wraps are best eaten immediately, but they can be frozen before toasting for up to 1 month.
What is lavaş and where can it be found?
Lavaş is a thin, soft Turkish flatbread that’s similar to a flour tortilla but often larger and more pliable. It’s available at Middle Eastern or Turkish grocery stores, or online. If you can’t find it, large flour tortillas or Greek pita flatbreads are good substitutes.
Can the wrap be baked instead of toasted?
Yes, you can bake the assembled wraps in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 10-12 minutes, turning once, until golden and crisp. This method is easier for making multiple wraps at once, but the skillet method gives a more even crust.
How can the wrap be kept from getting soggy?
To avoid sogginess, make sure the fries are very crispy before adding the cheese, and don’t overdress the filling. Also, toast the wrap until the exterior is deeply golden—this creates a barrier that helps keep the inside crunchy. Avoid adding wet toppings like fresh tomatoes.
Can the recipe be scaled up for a party?
Absolutely. Multiply the ingredients by the number of servings needed. Cook the fries and chicken in batches, and keep them warm in a low oven while assembling. Toast the wraps just before serving to maintain crispness. Slice into smaller pieces for appetizers.

Loaded Chicken & Fries Lavaş Wrap with Melted Cheddar

Cross-section of a crispy chicken fry dürüm wrap with melted cheese and fries

Ingredients

  • 200 g frozen French fries
  • 2 slices yellow cheddar cheese
  • 150 g crispy fried chicken tenders
  • 2 deep-fried onion rings
  • 1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/4 cup sliced dill pickles
  • 2 large Turkish lavaş flatbreads

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen fries on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake until golden and crispy, about 20 minutes, turning once halfway. Meanwhile, reheat the crispy chicken tenders in the oven for the last 5 minutes of the fry cooking time, until hot and crunchy. Transfer the fries to a large bowl.
  2. While the fries are still hot, lay the cheddar slices over the top and let them melt from the residual heat. Stir gently to coat the fries with the melted cheese.
  3. Chop the crispy chicken tenders into bite-size pieces. Add the chopped chicken, onion rings, shredded lettuce, and sliced pickles to the cheesy fries. Toss everything together gently so the toppings are evenly distributed.
  4. Warm the lavaş flatbreads in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds per side, until pliable and lightly toasted.
  5. Place one warm lavaş on a clean work surface. Spoon half of the loaded fries mixture into the center, spreading it into a log shape. Fold the sides over the filling, then roll tightly from the bottom to form a compact wrap.
  6. Heat a clean skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place the wraps seam-side down and toast for 2–3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  7. Transfer the toasted wraps to a cutting board and let rest for 1 minute. Slice each wrap in half crosswise to reveal the gooey, crunchy interior. Serve immediately.
