Tips for success
For a deeper flavor profile, consider adding a pinch of freshly cracked black pepper or red pepper flakes before serving.
These small additions can brighten the creamy sauce and provide a subtle heat that cuts through the richness of the cheese.
If the sauce seems too thin after the cooking process, remove the chicken and broccoli, then stir the sauce and let it cook on high for an additional 10 minutes with the lid off to reduce it.
This will create a more concentrated, velvety consistency.
Variations
- Spicy Alfredo Chicken: Add one tablespoon of red pepper flakes during the assembly phase for a spicy kick. The heat pairs beautifully with the creamy alfredo sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.
- Spinach and Chicken Alfredo: Substitute the broccoli with two cups of fresh baby spinach. Add the spinach during the final 15 minutes of cooking to ensure it wilts perfectly without becoming overcooked.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Keep in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- Store in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.
- Reheat
- Warm over low heat on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of milk to restore the creamy consistency.
Transfer any leftovers to an airtight container within two hours of cooking. Store in the refrigerator for up to three days.
When reheating, ensure the chicken reaches a safe internal temperature throughout. Avoid leaving the dish at room temperature for extended periods to maintain optimal quality and safety.
The ingredients can be measured and stored in a container in the refrigerator the night before, making assembly in the morning a breeze.
Simply add the pre-measured ingredients into the slow cooker, turn it on, and the meal will be ready by dinner time.
Serving ideas
Serve this creamy chicken dish over a bed of cooked pasta, such as fettuccine or penne, to soak up the extra alfredo sauce. A side of crusty garlic bread is also an excellent accompaniment to round out the meal and clear the plate.
For a lighter serving option, pair the chicken and broccoli with a fresh side salad tossed in a simple vinaigrette. The acidity of the dressing balances the creamy, cheesy elements of the main dish, providing a refreshing contrast in every bite.
