Tips for success
To add an extra layer of flavor, consider mixing a small amount of finely minced garlic or fresh herbs like chives into the alfredo sauce before layering.
This enhances the depth of the sauce and complements the delicate flavor of the crab and shrimp beautifully. If you prefer a bit of heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes can be sprinkled between the layers.
If you find the top of the lasagna is browning too quickly during the final uncovered bake, tent a piece of aluminum foil loosely over the top.
This prevents the cheese from burning before the center is heated through. Always keep a close eye on the oven during the last few minutes, as cheese can transition from perfectly melted to burnt very rapidly.
Variations
- Spicy Cajun Seafood: Add a tablespoon of Cajun seasoning to the alfredo sauce and incorporate some sliced andouille sausage for a bolder, spicier flavor profile that pairs well with the shrimp.
- Spinach and Seafood: Add a layer of sautéed, well-drained spinach between the seafood layers to introduce a fresh, earthy element and extra vitamins to the creamy lasagna.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Freezer
- The lasagna can be frozen after baking. Allow it to cool completely, wrap tightly in multiple layers of plastic wrap and foil, and freeze for up to 2 months.
- Reheat
- Reheat individual portions in the microwave or a 350°F oven until heated through.
Store any leftover lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Ensure the lasagna has cooled to room temperature before covering it, but do not leave it out for longer than two hours to ensure food safety.
If keeping for longer, consider portioning the leftovers into individual servings for easier reheating throughout the week.
This dish is an excellent candidate for making ahead. You can assemble the entire lasagna up to 24 hours in advance, cover it tightly, and store it in the refrigerator.
When ready to serve, simply remove it from the fridge while the oven preheats, then bake as directed. You may need to add an extra 5 to 10 minutes to the initial covered baking time if starting from a chilled state.
Serving ideas
Serve the lasagna warm, ideally paired with a crisp, light side salad or steamed green vegetables like asparagus or broccoli to balance the richness of the alfredo sauce. A slice of crusty garlic bread is also an excellent accompaniment for soaking up any extra sauce left on the plate.
When plating, use a sharp spatula to cut through the layers cleanly. Aim for consistent square portions to showcase the beautiful layers of seafood and noodles. Placing a fresh sprig of parsley or a small wedge of lemon on the side of the plate can provide a bright, fresh contrast to the creamy pasta.

Creamy Seafood Lasagna with Rich Alfredo Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 lb lasagna noodles, boiled until al dente
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 oz crab meat, lump or claw
- 3 cups alfredo sauce, store-bought or made ahead
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Instructions
- Boil the lasagna noodles in salted water until they are al dente. Drain the pasta thoroughly and set aside. Meanwhile, ensure the shrimp are cleaned, peeled, and deveined. If the shrimp are very large, cut them into bite-sized pieces to ensure they cook evenly within the layers of the lasagna.
- Spread a thin layer of alfredo sauce on the bottom of the 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange a layer of cooked noodles, followed by a portion of the shrimp, crab meat, and a generous amount of alfredo sauce. Sprinkle with a portion of the shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a final layer of cheese.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown. Ensure the shellfish reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Let the lasagna rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
