Before you start

Before you begin cooking, gather all of your equipment and pre-measure your ingredients to ensure a smooth, stress-free assembly process. Cook and crumble the bacon ahead of time so it is ready to go as a final topping.

Shred the mozzarella cheese and chop the fresh parsley. Having everything organized on your counter allows you to focus on browning the beef and layering the lasagna efficiently without any frantic searching.

Ingredients at a glance (7)
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp burger seasoning
  • 12 oven-ready lasagna sheets
  • 2 cups garlic parmesan sauce
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup crumbled cooked bacon
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

Beef Preparation

  1. Brown the Beef
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and season it evenly with the burger seasoning. Cook, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon, until it is fully browned and no longer pink. Ensure the ground beef reaches a safe internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) to guarantee food safety. Drain any excess grease from the skillet and set the seasoned beef aside.
Look for The beef is fully browned and no pink remains.
Safe temperature 160°F (71°C) internal temperature (ground meat)
Tip Drain the beef thoroughly to keep the lasagna from becoming greasy.

At the end of this phase, the ground beef should be completely browned, fully cooked, and beautifully seasoned with no traces of pink remaining.

The meat will sizzle gently in the skillet, releasing a savory, aromatic blend of beef and burger spices. Make sure to drain the excess fat so the lasagna does not become greasy during the baking process.

Lasagna Assembly

  1. Prepare the Base Layer
Spread a thin layer of the creamy garlic parmesan sauce over the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Arrange four lasagna sheets in a single layer over the sauce, overlapping them slightly if necessary to fit the dish securely.
Look for The bottom of the dish is lightly coated in sauce.
Tip Oven-ready noodles save time and absorb the rich flavors of the sauce.
  2. Assemble the Middle Layers
Distribute half of the cooked seasoned ground beef evenly over the pasta sheets. Drizzle a generous portion of the garlic parmesan sauce over the beef, then sprinkle one cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top. Repeat the process with another layer of lasagna sheets, the remaining beef, more sauce, and another cup of mozzarella.
Look for The layers are evenly distributed across the dish.
Tip Press down gently on the layers to keep the lasagna compact.
  3. Add the Top Layer
Place the final four lasagna sheets on top of the second layer. Spread the remaining garlic parmesan sauce evenly over the pasta sheets, ensuring they are completely covered. Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese over the top to create a thick, cheesy blanket.
Look for The pasta sheets are completely covered in sauce and cheese.
Tip Make sure no dry pasta edges are exposed to prevent them from burning.

By the end of the assembly phase, the baking dish will be filled with a neat, multi-layered structure of pasta, seasoned beef, rich white sauce, and a generous top blanket of shredded mozzarella. The layers should look even and complete, with the sauce fully covering the top pasta sheets to prevent them from drying out in the oven.

Baking and Garnish

  1. Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil, making sure the foil does not touch the cheese directly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Carefully remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
Look for The cheese is bubbling and golden brown at the edges.
Tip Tent the foil slightly so it does not pull the cheese off when removed.
  2. Add Toppings and Rest
Remove the lasagna from the oven. Immediately scatter the crumbled cooked bacon over the hot, bubbling cheese. Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley over the bacon. Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing; this allows the layers to set and makes it easier to serve clean, beautiful squares.
Look for The steam from the cheese softens the bacon slightly.
Tip Letting the lasagna rest is essential for clean, towering slices.

The baked lasagna is complete when the mozzarella cheese is completely melted, bubbling vigorously at the edges, and develops a beautiful golden-brown color on top. When you scatter the bacon and fresh parsley over the hot cheese, the steam will release the fresh aroma of the herbs, and the bacon will adhere to the molten cheese.

Common mistakes

A common mistake is slicing the lasagna immediately after removing it from the oven. If you do not let the lasagna rest, the hot cheese and creamy sauce will be too fluid, causing the towering layers to slide apart and lose their shape on the plate.

Another error is failing to cover the top pasta sheets completely with sauce; any exposed dry pasta edges will become hard, crunchy, and unpleasant to chew after baking.

How to tell it’s done

To determine if the lasagna is perfectly done, check that the cheese is bubbling throughout the dish and has achieved a deep golden-brown crust on top.

For food safety, the ground beef must have reached a minimum internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) during the initial browning phase. You can insert an instant-read thermometer into the center of the baked lasagna to ensure it is piping hot all the way through before serving.

  • Ground meat: 160°F (71°C) in the thickest part
