Tips for success
For the best flavor, use a high-quality tikka masala sauce. Look for one that lists tomatoes, cream, and spices as the main ingredients.
If you prefer a spicier curry, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a chopped green chili along with the garam masala. The coconut cream adds a subtle sweetness that balances the heat.
To make this a complete meal, serve the curry with steamed basmati rice and warm naan. You can also add a side of cucumber raita or a simple green salad to cool the palate.
For a lower-carb option, serve it over cauliflower rice or with roasted vegetables. Leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
Variations
- Chicken Tikka Masala: Substitute the beef brisket with boneless, skinless chicken thighs. Cook on low for 4–5 hours or until the chicken is cooked through and tender. Shred the chicken slightly before serving.
- Vegetarian Version: Replace the beef with 2 cups of cooked chickpeas and add 2 cups of cauliflower florets. Cook on low for 4 hours. The chickpeas will absorb the sauce and provide a hearty texture.
- Spicy Coconut Curry: Add 1–2 finely chopped fresh green chilies or 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes along with the garam masala for extra heat. Increase the coconut cream to 1 1/2 cups for a richer sauce.
- Creamy Tomato Curry: For a more tomato-forward flavor, reduce the tikka masala sauce to 1 cup and add 1/2 cup of crushed tomatoes. The result is a slightly tangier, more robust sauce.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The curry will keep well and the flavors will meld even more.
- Freezer
- To freeze, cool the curry completely and transfer to a freezer-safe container. It will keep for up to 3 months.
- Reheat
- Reheat the curry in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until bubbling. Add a splash of water or coconut milk if the sauce is too thick.
Store any leftover curry in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The sauce will thicken as it cools; add a splash of water or coconut milk when reheating to loosen it. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave until piping hot.
This recipe is perfect for meal prep. You can assemble the ingredients in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate. In the morning, simply place the insert in the slow cooker and cook as directed. You may need to add 30 minutes to the cooking time if starting from cold.
Serving ideas
Serve the beef brisket tikka masala over a bed of fluffy steamed basmati rice. The rice soaks up the rich, creamy sauce, making every bite satisfying.
Warm naan bread on the side is perfect for scooping up the curry and wiping the plate clean. A sprinkle of fresh cilantro on top adds a pop of color and freshness.
For a heartier meal, you can also serve this curry with roasted potatoes or butternut squash. The mild sweetness of the vegetables complements the spicy, creamy sauce.
If you have leftover curry, use it as a filling for wraps or as a topping for baked potatoes. It's versatile and delicious.

Coconut Cream Tikka Masala Beef Brisket: Slow Cooker

Ingredients
- 2 lb beef brisket, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 1/2 cups tikka masala sauce
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1 cup coconut cream
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
Instructions
- Place the cubed beef brisket in the bottom of the slow cooker. Spread it into an even layer so it covers the bottom of the insert.
- Pour the tikka masala sauce over the beef. Sprinkle the garam masala evenly over the sauce. Stir gently to coat the beef with the sauce.
- Pour the coconut cream over the sauce. Sprinkle the chopped cilantro on top. Do not stir; leave the layers as they are.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, until the beef is fork-tender. Avoid opening the lid during cooking to keep the heat steady. Let it rest for 3 minutes before slicing.
- After the cooking time is up, test a piece of beef with a fork. It should pull apart easily and be very tender. If not, continue cooking in 30-minute increments until it is. Let it rest for 3 minutes before slicing.
- Turn off the slow cooker and let the beef rest in the hot sauce for at least 10 minutes. This allows the meat to reabsorb juices and become even more tender.
- Spoon the beef and sauce over steamed basmati rice, and serve with warm naan on the side. Garnish with extra cilantro if desired.
