Tips for success
For the best flavor, choose a high-quality molasses garlic BBQ sauce. If you have time, make your own by combining ketchup, molasses, apple cider vinegar, and garlic.
The cherries add a fruity depth that complements the pork beautifully. If you prefer a thicker glaze, transfer the sauce from the slow cooker to a saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes to reduce before serving.
Leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator and used as a dipping sauce for the ribs or even on chicken. When reheating ribs, do so gently in the microwave or oven to avoid drying them out.
If you want a caramelized finish, place the cooked ribs under the broiler for 2–3 minutes after slow cooking—watch closely to avoid burning.
Variations
- Spicy Cherry Cola Ribs: Add 1–2 minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce to the BBQ sauce mixture for a smoky heat that balances the sweetness. Reduce the cola to 3/4 cup to compensate for the extra liquid from the peppers.
- Bourbon Cherry Ribs: Replace half the cola with bourbon for a deeper, adult flavor. Add 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the BBQ sauce to enhance the savory notes. Cook as directed.
- Cherry Cola Ribs with Bacon: Lay 4 slices of cooked bacon over the ribs before adding the cherries and sauce. The bacon adds a smoky, salty crunch that contrasts with the sweet glaze. Crumble extra bacon over the top before serving.
- Hawaiian Style Ribs: Use pineapple juice instead of cola and add 1/2 cup of diced pineapple along with the cherries. Omit the molasses BBQ sauce and use a teriyaki glaze for a sweet-tropical twist.
Storage and make-ahead
- Fridge
- Store ribs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Keep the sauce with the meat to maintain moisture.
- Freezer
- Freeze cooled ribs and sauce in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
- Reheat
- Reheat ribs in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 10–15 minutes, or microwave in 1-minute intervals until hot. Add a splash of cola or water if the sauce is too thick.
Store leftover ribs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Keep the sauce with the ribs to prevent them from drying out. Reheat gently in the microwave or in a covered skillet over low heat until warmed through. For best texture, reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 10–15 minutes.
You can assemble the ribs in the slow cooker insert up to 12 hours ahead and refrigerate. When ready to cook, place the insert in the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 hours. Alternatively, cook the ribs fully, then cool and refrigerate. Reheat in the slow cooker on low for 1–2 hours or in the oven until hot.
Serving ideas
Serve the ribs as the main event with classic sides like coleslaw, cornbread, or roasted potatoes. The sweet-tangy glaze pairs beautifully with creamy mashed potatoes or a crisp green salad.
Set out extra napkins—these ribs are sticky and finger-licking good. For a casual gathering, let guests pull the ribs apart at the table.
For a more composed plate, slice the ribs into individual bones and arrange them on a platter with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or green onions.
Drizzle with extra sauce from the slow cooker. These ribs also make excellent sliders—pile the meat onto soft buns and top with coleslaw for a crowd-pleasing sandwich.

Cherry Cola Molasses Ribs: 10-Minute Crockpot Dinner

Ingredients
- 2 lb pork baby back ribs
- 1 cup pitted dark sweet cherries
- 1 cup cola
- 1 cup molasses garlic BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Place the pork baby back ribs in the bottom of a 6- to 7-quart slow cooker, arranging them side by side. If needed, cut the racks to fit in a single layer.
- Scatter the pitted dark sweet cherries evenly over the ribs. Pour the cola along the side of the slow cooker, avoiding pouring directly over the ribs to keep the seasoning in place.
- Drizzle the molasses garlic BBQ sauce in thick ribbons over the ribs and cherries, covering as much surface as possible.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 hours, or until the ribs are tender and the meat pulls easily from the bone. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to maintain heat. Let it rest for 3 minutes before slicing.
- Turn off the slow cooker and let the ribs rest in the sauce for 10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and the meat to become more tender.
- Using a carving fork, carefully lift the ribs out of the slow cooker and transfer to a serving plate. Spoon some of the reduced cherry-cola sauce over the top before serving.
